If it wasn't for Paramount this stupid war would be over by now. They signed that agreement way too soon. Now the only major studio exclusive to HD-DVD is Paramount. If they could just wiggle out of that contract we could establish a winner.

 

I'm glad I waited, but for some reason I kind of hoped it would be HD-DVD that would win out.

 

That's stupid. Why support only Blu-Ray when HD-DVD is just as good? What's the difference between the two, anyway? Besides the "blue laser" and "holds more" stuff?

This isn't like VHS vs DVD, where it's obvious which is better. Do they think Blu-Ray sales will go up if it's the only format they offer? What about people (like me) who don't see the use for Blu-Ray as upposed to DVD?

Rhetorical question. I'm just bitter because I like HD-DVD better.

 

microsoft should have made a xbox with the hd-dvd built in. that would have made the 'war' last longer.

The problem is, that hd-dvd is not just as good as blu-ray, it's just that they're both better than dvd. The current hd-dvd's only support a little under 30GB of space, while blu-ray is I believe 51GB. The difference that makes, is that the transformers hd-dvd could not fit the high definition audio tracks, and it could have had those on blu-ray.

HD-DVD on the other hand can offer dual format discs so someone can buy a hd-dvd with the dvd movie also on it, to play in a regular dvd player. This can be an advantage to those in a house with 1 hd setup in the living room, and then say a kid wants to go watch the movie in their room.

One is technically better than the other, but the other(only if produced that way) can be more convenient.

That's your major differences without a "zomg one's better than the other!" post.

And no, regular dvd isn't going anywhere any time soon. Too many people still buy hd tv's, subscribe to hd channels on cable or satellite, buy next gen consoles, have a hi-def dvd player, and never actually bothered to set any of it up to play in 720p, 1080i, or 1080p

 

The format war is bad for business and siding with the one that is already winning is the best way to expediate its end.

This just reminded me that CES is next week, bonus comedy points to Warner for forcing the folks at Toshiba to stand up in front of the entire consumer electronics industry and shill thier format four days after everybody finds out that its as good as dead.
