Here's another take at the transformers market by a company called Playmates with a NEW Toyline called R.E.V.s Just click on the Maverick or Syndicate symbols to see the $14-17.99 assortments. There's also deluxe type sets for $9.99 and basic type sets for $6.99 which are not shown on the site. It needs updated badly. Or check out a photo gallery from Toyfair 06 here http://69.93.119.2/photo/4/showgallery.php?cat=80 Saw these at Walmart. The $6.99 ones have figs about 3 3/4 inch and very poseable with holes in their bodies to connect the automotive gear to transform into a car, bike, jet etc.. The $10 & $18 one's are the same, but the figures you load upwith armor are about Marvel Legends size. They were in the TF aisle Their parts also combine to form a gestalt robot, or whatever fanmodes you can think of. Here's the Toyfair promotional ad http://www.playmatestoys.com/html/corporate/pressreleases/REVs_Oct_ToyFair_2006.pdf Quote from Matt Forbeck's site, which is the guy who created them
Yeah i saw these in stores recently, right next to Transformers for that matter. They look very basic. No where near as complex as transformers.
They look like multi-part Shellformers to me. Almost like a modern-day Pretender, the only thing being needed would be for the figure itself to transform. Pretty colors though and being sold right next to Transformers I'm sure some parents will be picking these up. Anyway, with this being 2007 and the mountain of TF items that will be appearing soon, I won't be blowing any bucks on REVS.
Neat idea, not fond of the color schemes though. Not enough space in my office for a new toyline though. ~X
stop showing me toys I might want, CM. I just canceled my preorder for the happywell roadbots because I don't have the room...
I spotted some of those taking up TF peg space at my local WM a few weeks ago. I didn't particularly care for them, but I'd like to take a second look.
I was looking at these in walmart yesterday. They hardly had any left. I was considering getting one, but I didnt.
The odd thing I found, at my Wal-Mart the little guys were in with the action figures, the bigger ones were mixed in with the cars and models. I've never seen toy lines split like that before, though I'm sure it happens.
Saw these today; they look kinda neat. Not on par with TFs or anything, but kinda neat. Like CM, I might snag a $7 to fiddle with.
So Hasbro lost the R.E.V. copyright name, I'm guessing? Not that I particularly care, it was a horrible name, just curious...
They look vaguely cool, but all they seem to be is humanoid bots with shells strapped to their backs...am I wrong? That gestalt option does sound intriguing, though...
I checked 'em out, not really impressed. I could see them being excellent kitbashing material, however.
I grabbed a couple last month. Honestly, their bad. Or i've just got bad luck, cause the two I grabbed are pretty shoddy. Some fall apart if you look at them wrong, others you need a screwdriver to pry apart. On the $9.96 one I got(red car), when in bot mode with the car parts on, his arms have to be pointint straight out to the sides. It's the only way to fit the parts over the shoulders.
I say some at Target, and wasn't impressed. And Your right MMM, they might make good kitbash, but no much on their own.
I saw these things a few days ago. And, I was not impressed at all. Just another toy company's attempt to recreate Transformers on their terms.
Those are all kinds of Ugly. Maybe if the car 'armor' was in smaller pieces, but it just looks awkward as all hell ATM.
My only main draw with these is they're all so similar. If you get one from each size class, then you pretty much sampled all they have to offer. I do like the figs alone though, could make some neat Cobra B.A.T.S. customs out of them. I also like they have balljoints. The cars bot modes almost remind me of RID Ironhide. Kibble city That gestalt is what's pulling me in the most, but dont know how sturdy it is. Anyone have any good pics of it? The one on the packages are tiny
