I get their point, but I think it's still pretty weak.

Yea thats a total cop-out, but it's still better than Bono co-winning it last year.

Well first I'de like to thank myself for all the hard work I've done this year. Without me it would have never been possible.

    Time’s Person of the Year 2006 is…

You! With a gimmicky mirror cover and everything.

I have to say I think this makes “the computer” (1982) look like and awesome choice. It just seems like a cop-out choice to me. Lame, lame, lame.

    I'll third it.

I haven't heard anybody commend Time for this choice so far.

I just stumbled on CNN’s special about picking the person and they are talking about having it be the leader of China. I think that would have been a good idea. China is coming on like gang busters on the world stage and if the west doesn’t watch it’s step China could very well end up on top.

Meh. No one's done anything amazing this year.

Anyone they actually picked would just get a loud "boo" anyways. Might as well take a cop out.

    It's not a cop-out or lame.

User-created content and web 2.0 have effected western civilization more than anything else this year. This is correct choice.

I'm not entirely sure when Time lost their balls on this, but it definately happened by 2001, when they gave it to Guliani rather than Osama bin Laden (who best fit their standard of "for better or worse, has most influenced events in the preceding year."

For the record - I had no perceptible influence on events this past year.

I agree in general, but China's been an ongoing story that has not, IMO, varied much the past few years. I see no reason to give Jintao the award for this past year.

I think Ahmaejinedad of Iran or Chavez of Venuzula would be better candidates for this year.
