Funny moment on CSI last night: Warrick is telling Grisham that the USB memory stick he found in the deceased's office at first just looked like it held a bunch of pictures, but it seems the USB stick is "more than meets the eye". Greg (youngest of the CSI team members) walks in right on queue and says "So the USB stick is a Transformer?". Warrick looks at him puzzled and says "Not quite". Made me laugh since its the sort of comment I'd have made, and gotten the exact same look from my non-TF fan co-workers. (OK, this n00b searched for "CSI" before posting this, found nothing, and carefully chose what seemed the best forum to post it in, so please be nice )
Hehe. I always get a kick out of things like this from shows. Never would expect CSI to have one. Pretty cool We hav'nt had a "Transformers mentioned in tv shows/movies' thread in awhile so this may be the new one. Was watching Dickie Roberts and they mentioned TF's and Gobots it it. That show 3rd Watch had RID Megtron being saved from a fire. lol
yeah, i saw that episode. actually it had both RID megatron and galvatron, first this kid was playing with galvatron at the park and broke his arm after falling of a slide, then another kid is rescued form a fire and almost gets himself killed just to go back for his transformer.
While we're on the subject of TFs on other TV shows, I caught a glimpse of a guy wearing a Decepticon T-Shirt on The Price is Right while on lunch the other day. I think he won $10,000 on the wheel. Just thought I'd mention that, seemed as good a place as any...
If anything I think they just decided to add a pop culture reference like a lot of shows are doing now a days.
I didnt see this posted anywhere, but did anyone happen to catch the Simpsons last Sunday? Towards the beginning of the show army recruiters where trying to get Bart's class to sign up for the army early and agree to go when they turn of age, so they show a video of what the army is like, and it said something like, The Army, All The Things You Love! It had a knight of some sort on a mountain of fire pulling a sword from the stone and then he transformed into a helicopter and flew away. I almost think there was a TFing sound, but I'm not sure.
That's not the first TF reference in The Simpsons though. In the episode where Comic Book Guy has a heart attack, Bart and Milhouse run the comic book store and get into a fight. They each grab a robot and transform it. Bart's turns into an ax, then Milhouse's turns into a flower watering can.
CSI has a lot of tonge in cheek geek humor. They show the main guys investigating murders and crimes but they also strongly hint that many of them,,, how shall I put this, don't get out much. I've never really watched CSI that much but this season I'm hooked (because I like Survivor and Shark) The Dollhouse Killer's a really macabre storyline. But just the other night that cute lab tech made one of the guys seranade her with "Mandy" before giving him information. Now is that a Barry Manilow joke or an Buffy/Angel reference? (or is the girl's name Amanda? I don't know)
How about the intro with the family driving into the living room and transforming. Homer was Optimus, Marge was Jetfire, Lisa was Hound, Bart was Jazz and Maggie looked like a blue Bumblebee.
CSI has had a few references in the past as well as use a lot of music that has been in transformers. They used the peice used for Beast Machines several times.
Never knew about the BM music ref., but I did see the CSI reference. Leave it to Greg to be the one to drop it. My wife (a TF fan only by marriage) actually laughed with me. I think it was mostly for Warrick's reaction than for what Greg said. On a side note, There was a thread similar to this about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I don't know why no one has attempted to pull all these threads of references together under one thread and make it a sticky. Oh well, I'll see if I can find more threads and edit them into this post. EDIT: Well, here's the threads I found at TFW2005 so far: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=115465 http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=113907 http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=115637 http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=114387 http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=113828 http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=109946 http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/showthread.php?t=111263
The comic book store reference is far older than that intro. At least a couple seasons if not more. It is, AFAIK the first TF reference in the Simpsons.
