I've been waiting months for them to announce a G1 character for MP23, and they give me this?

This is basically a whole new character, vaguely based on an old Diaclone. That's some E-HOBBY-level shit right there.

 

Uh... Really? I'm not saying it's bad, as everybody was clamoring for a Diaclone Wheeljack but retconning a Diaclone character into the lore and giving it its own specific MP-number (as opposed to MP-20-D or whatever) seems very odd. Not bad, just kinda weird. Cool for the people that love Diaclone references though!

Yeah, looks very interesting, but not sure I would want this to be honest. Don't have any connection to this or know what this figure is... I am saying that, yet Star Saber is looking nicer and nicer...

 

He's probably getting his own number because he's a new character AND he has new tooling. Usually only one or the other is true of characters with modified numbers (MP-11A, MP-11S, MP-12G).

This is easily the most bonkers thing I've seen the Masterpiece series do. It really cements them as a Diaclone-homage line.

Please tell me this isn't what they meant when the designers were talking about 2015 being the year of the Decepticons. I really hope stuff like BugBite or Evil Starsaber don't become MP-2X.

I mean, I'm all for the mold reuse, but up until now they seemed to understand what they were doing by only making the main numbered MPs legitimate original version G1 characters. Heck, even Soundblaster was an MP-13 subrelease. But if this is MP-23, I am going to be worried for the line and what it means for the chances of us getting a decently complete Season 1/2 lineup.

This is probably what they meant by next level, creating their own characters.

 

The fate of the line is not going to be altered because Exhaust is numbered MP-23 instead of MP-20D. Unless someone is OCD as hell. Nothing is affected. He's still just a redeco/retool.
