My daughter's birthday is this weekend, and I'm not a convention-goer anyway - I went to a Star Trek convention when I was a kid, and even at nine years old I could look around and see that something was terribly wrong. :lol  That was my first and last convention.

All I'm really interested in is news about new products (which I can get here), and the toys (which I can get between my non-attendee package and eBay).

The folks that go always seem to have a good time though, so different strokes.

Couldn't afford it. Plus I figure the money spent on getting to and from the show can be spent on toys instead. Which is has. :)

Couldn't possibly afford it, what with school expenses and all. Speaking of which, I have a shitload of work to do for class on Monday and Tuesday.

But on the plus side, I got to see Ron White perform today. I'd say that's a pretty fair trade.

Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't. So much money for so little in return.

You're going to Disney World for cows? To each his own, I suppose. :lolol

I'm not sure I get Botcon. I mean, it would be cool to go if it were in my city, but I look at it this way: I can buy all of the TFs I want online, I can get all of the news from in through TFW, and I don't particularly care about the exclusives. Meeting the VAs would be cool, I suppose, but rather uneventful. "Oh, so that's what Peter Cullen looks like up close. OK, cool."

I know the social aspect is the big reason, but I'm pretty sure if I went I'd find all of the board regulars huddled around a bar, laughing and joking. I'd introduce myself and receive mostly blank stares and some muttered recognition before they returned to their merriment. Nah. S'ok.

Mostly a case of kinda wanting to go but no great motivation to, I guess. Well, and I'm planning on spending my vacation time to take about a month long honeymoon when I get married. :D

I've been to a Cybercon at one point and its great because you have all of these toys at your fingertips that you would otherwise have to bid on, have shipped, potentially get lost... and then you don't get what they tell you. Needless to say it makes your choices easier, but its only good if you have the cash. They do go for quite a premium over, say, a good ebayer.

It's also nice to chat with boarders, see what they're like. But I wouldn't go nuts over a convention half a world away. As long as its nearby and you have some bucks, its fun to indulge in your hobby. Otherwise, drool at those packages that come to your house by the day. :D

Too expensive. Too far. Not allowed to go anyway. Don't really want to go.

Like others have said, I can get all the news here for free. Sure, the "regulars" have fun at the bars and whatnot, but I don't know any of them, and I'm sure none of them care to know me, so why bother?

I echo Severus' statements. All I could possibly get from BotCon would be the news (which I can see here), the exclusives (which I can't afford), and the opportunity to see a bunch of strangers have fun and talk about old times I was never a part of, and old friends I never met, while I sit there like an idiot trying to "fit in" with people I'll never see again. I got enough of that during high school, I don't need to pay hundreds of dollars to get more of the same...

I'd go if it was near (VERY near) my town, but as it stands, there's no reason for me to travel halfway across the country, spending several Benjamins in the process, and risk having a lousy time.
