the same guy who did the Superion and Devastator not too long ago. i think he did really well on bruticus. http://cgi.ebay.com/Custom-G1-Transformers-BRUTICUS-COMBATICONS-MPC03-15_W0QQitemZ350136474955QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item350136474955&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1205|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50 [ATT]18427[/ATT] [ATT]18428[/ATT]
Pretty cool. The guy seems to do some good work, but he does it about 75-80%, then sort of leaves it hanging (or so it seems). The only thing I don't understand is if you plan to heavy mod Onslaught, why not AT LEAST change the obvious Megatron head? I dig the hard work and heart he put into it though--I just wish he would have done a little more and finished it on a high note. I do like the Bruticus head, though it does seem a bit small. 7/10, easily--but it could've been 10/10.
Interesting that he would go to so much trouble to paint and engineer this Bruticus, but then not bother to alter the heads and stuff to reflect their traditional appearances. Impressive to be sure, but leaves me wanting more. The combined form looks great. It's hard to tell how much "new" material is used in the gestalt mode, but it's given me a few ideas for my own bashing plan. zmog
I like this, but I agree that his combiners always have this incomplete look to them in that he doesn't bother modding the head sculpts. I do like the other mods he did to the individual bots. That's definitely an improvement over Superion in that area. Lol @ the BIN price though. At least give a guy a fucking chance to buy it. Did he ever sell that Superion?
I really like the modification on the Classics Prime for Onslaught. I think better molds could be chosen for Vortex and Swindle though. (Also, remember if you're posting works of other artists, place them in "General Discussion" here in Radicons )
That's amazing. I had pretty much the same idea for a Onslaught kitbash using the Classics Prime mold a while back, but wasn't sure if making that mold a long-nosed semi was possible. Gestalt-mode looks really good, as due the individual bot and alt-modes. Though I agree, retooled heads for the individual bots would have made this even better. Now it needs a Ruination repaint
I was watching the auction and he got 0 bids. As I said in the ebau section about this same auction, if you give it really low start bid you can give bidders a chance to give it a value. I mean in theory it could go higher than $700 but I think people like to start low with their 'bidding' Some people will see that there is an interest in his work and may get the bidding even higher especially if has people that fell there is a value to his work On topic though I agree that he's lacking in the individual bot modes here. Not the greatest molds but he didn't have a lot of choices for shuttles and coptors, although he picked my least favorite coptor ever
Exactly my thoughts... I don't know about being "traditional" necessarily, but I'd completely agree with you that it's strange the heads don't get the same treatment this guy gives to the rest of the piece.. the sort of changes people make to the faces and head moulds can be some of the best parts of a custom. Shame, because it's otherwise very well done! Good ebay spot, cheers for sharing.
Comments like these are probably the worst part of sharing one's efforts and hard work. 'Oh, that's great. Now do this', 'Oh, how wonderful! Now you have to do that'. How about we just appreciate and talk about what's on the table for once? I see the same sort of comments repeatedly in the artwork forums as well as here, and it's very irritating sometimes. Not to come out at you specifically Raven, I love your work, it's just that skimming through the thread and catching it just reminded me of aaaaaaall the times I've seen it previously. Maybe I'm just the only guy that finds it irksome. If so, my apologies in advance; I'll be the grumbly disguntled one in the back.. - Alty
I think you may just be letting a light-hearted half-serious type of comment get to you. I don't think it's supposed to be disparaging to the work... in fact, it can be seen as a form of appreciation of the bash itself, in that the new figure is nice enough that the commenter is excited to see it in their favourite repaint deco. Maybe part of this stems from a disconnect between appreciation of the the physical remodeling of the figure as compared to the process of repainting. They are both different disciplines, though interrelated. Some people are masterful and innovative bashers, while others excel mainly at meticulous repainting. Some rare experts are great at both, and their work reflects it. I could maybe see comments like that as a slight to the painting, but not the bashing... and even then, only if you were really looking for an insult in what someone says. zmog
I know that some people wish the artist would take it a little further with modding the heads and such but I can't tell you how many times I find myself guilty of the same exact thing. I only did a couple of bashes but after all the work, I find that I can live with the heads slightly modded here and there. I guess I'm not as much of a purist to G1 as I originally thought. Anyway, I think this is a winner. Much like his Superion, He gave me good ideas to use for Bruticus, although I’m going a different route with Onslaught (I’m actually using Classics onslaught for that one). I'd love to see him do a Predaking and look at the characters he uses for that as well.
I think my thought mirror everyone elses. To go so far with some mods, but not to take the other seemingly smaller details into consideration makes it seem a bit half hearted. Still, you gotta respect da skilz.
