So, this little project isn't anything "original" from ol' SQ7, as several have tackled it (and arguably have done a better job to boot), but this is certainly one of those that I saw and wanted my own. I really want more of these Action Masters characters to get figures like this, so I figured I'd go my own route. Here are some of the previous projects mentioned: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/288289-classics-gutcruncher.html http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/514080-classics-gutcruncher.html http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/830769-generations-gutcruncher-sparkcrusher.html http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/977603-classics-gutcruncher-stratotronic-jet.html http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/980071-commissions-week-day-1-a.html Much like Cheet P's version, I wanted to stick pretty close to having an all green tank with minimal color flashes of bright orange and such. I ended up using the flat green from the Testor's military set, as I also wanted a military flat green finish. I've been tinkering on this one every so often in spurts of about 30 minutes usually, sometimes more or less depending on my mood. I just got to the point recently that I wanted this "just done!" like much of my backlogged work. The head was a late decision, as I took it from a Generations Wheeljack and adjusted it to fit the transformation storage in the turret as well as modified it to look less like Wheeljack and more like Gutcruncher. I still need to add a faction symbol at least, and the gun from Cybertron Scattershot still needs slightly modifying to properly fit Gutcruncher's grips. The jet like haha/GetRightRobot would be really cool too, but I'm thinking that's beyond the scope of this project here, despite how awesome it would be. At any rate, here are the photos showing my work! (This is how I often spend my weekend late nights while watching a movie.) s Though I've unexplainably lost interest in Actionmaster updates I have to say this looks pretty awesome...
As promised, the first post is updated with the photos inline with the post for easier viewing. If I can make a fan of someone who isn't into Action Masters I suppose I've done something right at least Not really. Gutcruncher isn't an easy figure to come by to start with. I like the solution that I came up with using Wheeljack's head well enough, as it matches pretty well. Thanks a lot, guys!
Nice job bud! That modded WJ head works well and I especially like the silver in the tread wheels, it really pops!
Wheeljack's head (with those alterations) works wonders for Gutcruncher. Seriously why haven't we gotten Gutcruncher?
Thanks a lot, guys! For the longest time, I was just going to use the Warpath head, and the thought to use WJ's noggin just struck me as potentially working. Modifying heads has actually always been my favorite part of making custom bots, so off I went. Mainly, I just had to make sure it worked well enough. I thought about modifying the neck to a ball joint, but I was already to the point of just wanting to move on. I added putty to the head inside, as WJ'S head was really loose, much to my surprise. The cutting off of the "ears" seemed mandatory, but I had to shave the head down just a bit for clearance. I also made some adjustments to the top just to make it more like Gutcruncher. It wouldn't surprise me if we get a Gutcruncher from the club or something, but I'm good until we do now Thanks buddy! Much appreciated! It is one of the last Action Masters to come out in the US. Action Masters was the last hoorah for G1, so that's no surprise. I have a soft spot for some of the more obscure characters like this anyways, since marquee characters tend to be done to death. Glad you like my work
Really like the new head, gun and silver detailing - makes him stand out from Warpath. I kinda miss the orange from the original Gutcruncher, even though the tank mode looks much more realistic without it. Your custom also doubles as a nice Gobots Treds homage!
Hey, thanks! I had to be in the right mood to work on those treads, but I eventually just got to the point to where I just wanted to bust it out. I'm glad that I've done it now. I went with gold instead of orange, as I just felt it was a better fit and a bit more realistic and fitting with the overall aesthetic of Generations. I'd be thrilled with an official Treds as well since Gobots rock
