Hi all, this is a custom I've been thinking of doing since I bought this figure, the reason it's taken me so long is that I figured they seeing as FansProject brought out addon kits for Superion and Bruticus good old Devy would be next, WRONG! Then Hercules and Yellow/Green Giant were released which are fine looking figures but too expensive for my wallet. So my only option was to have a go myself.

    What I Used:

    -1 Classics Devastator.
-1 Junkion Blacksmith G1 Devy upgrade Kit
-1 KO FansProject Crossfire Arial Appendage Upgrade kit.
    -Lego connectors
    -Magnetic tape

So working from the head down, this is what I did, I used a craft knife to shave away the front of Classics Devys face, making sure it was as level as possible.

I then applied magnetic tape to Devys f'd up face.

The reason for shaving back the face was so that the panel covering the face in alt mode can still close with the magnet applied.

I then took the Junkion Blacksmith head and cut a section from the lower rear of the piece.

Cutting this section out allows for full range of movement when turning Devys head.

I then added more magnetic tape to the back of Devys head.

So face done I moved on to the arms, which were quite tricky, first off I scrabbled together some lego pieces that would maximise his articulation.

These guys work great, however they need cutting down so they look like this.

This is the piece that will attach to Wideload/Hightower limb. Before you do this you will have to carve out a sizable chunk of plastic from the back of thier groins (ouch!), so they look like this.

    And for comparison purposes.

With this done I superglued the lego connector in place.

If you look close you will see I have also hade to shave/sand his thigh and groin section level with the lego connector, this is to allow full range of movement once the forearms are connected.

On to the forearms, first of you will need more of those lego connectors and you will need to cut them down till they look like this.

Then you take the Junkion Blacksmith arms and superglue yet another lego connector in the 5mm hole like so.

With all this in place the arms connect together like so.

Now on to the legs, Devys legs were actually not bad to begin with so all I did was add feet, first off you take his original energon feet and remove his heel section, then take the FansProject feet, remove the rear section, cut of the 5mm connectors as they are not needed then cut the piece to match the energon molding like so.

I also removed the front pieces and spray painted them purple.

The other thing I did was modify the Junkion Blacksmith chestplate, I did this by taking this piece from the FansProject set.

I cut down the 4 tabs and sanded the front level, I then sanded the back of the chestplate level and superglued them together so that the piece sat on the figure covering the original Con logo, doing this also allows for grater arm articulation without the chestplate getting in the way.

I think that's about it, hope you like him, here are a few more photos.

He also scales pretty well with Superion.

And I used some left over FansProject pieces to give the Constucticons some weaponry.

Thanks chroma, glad you like him, interesting you should mention Shapeways, because that was my first port of call once 3rd party was a no no, cant believe no-ones done a kit for Devy on there, just out of interest what was you solution for this figure? And how did it differ from mine?

i may revisit devy once im done with perfecting superion

i havent really created anything yet; for now it's just running imaginary ideas through my head. without revealing too much, here are some food for thought:

have you thought about digging a deeper cavity on the new head? or better yet, close the original green head cover (you have it open), THEN insert new head?

arms i plan to do it the same way as most 3rd party combines are doing to create elbow joints, nothing special here

legs i was thinking of new foot pads that can swivel so they sit on the ground abit better; similar to fansproject bruticus footpads. though the biggest problem for me right now is that the wheels near the knees are bumping against each other and i do not have a solution for it yet.

and have you tried rotating the waist 180 degrees, and then rotating the thighs (back) 180 degrees?

I've been working (for quite some time now) on replacing Sledgehammer with 2 other members. It is NOT EASY. Your mods look better than anything I have thus far. Great job!

Thanks guys, glad you all like him!

I'd like to see your efforts once completed Chroma, your work on Predaking is very nice! I did try doing the head in the manner you have suggested but just couldn't get it to work, I eneded up screwing up his head but was lucky enough to find someone selling the same head on eBay. What would I gain from rotating the waist and thighs? Does this prevent the wheels hitting each other?

wow, this looks great. really *fits*.

wish the head was a bit more recessed tho, and the feet parts were so hard to acquire, haha.

    thumbs up tho, mate :)

Thanks mate, yeah the head was a bitch, but I've got it pretty much how I wanted it anyway. The feet were actually the easiest part of the whole piece, loads of KO Crossfire kits on eBay for about £35. Incidentally the Superion on the first page is sporting the KO set, it's worth picking up if you working on a budget and don't mind modding it a little.

by the time i get something done with devy it may be a year from now lol and everybody would have forgotten about this

refer to attached image to see what i am trying to get at. have you tried taking off the clear purple part from the x-transbots head to see how much cavity it has inside? you may have to cut off quite a bit to make it fit, if at all possible

as for the groin rotation, do you happen to have a fansproject bruticus in hand? if so, go take alook at the groin area. as for what this does to devy.....for the thighs not too much but the gray panels will now be on the outer side of the thighs. as for the groin, you are now exposed with a belly button and an anus lol, or rather.....2 screw holes, an excellent area to attach a new groin plate into

I tried that with the head and ended up screwing it up, so went for the simpler option in the end which will do for me, thanks for the advice though.

I see what you mean with his legs, good idea! Might have a look for G1 Devy groin plates on eBay, thanks again.

Thought I'd give this thread a bump as I hit the rather sucky bandwith limit on Photobucket and have re-uploaded the photos from Flickr.
