Has any one looked at taking these and having them printed up semi professionally. Say using a service like Walgreens, Staples or Office Depot services?
Some D&D miniature videos I've watched for ideas have recommended them. Mainly because (Like me) they did not have a laser printer for those fine details.

    297x210mm equals 8" x 11", give or take.

I was asking how he thought it would look 914x609mm.

This is it without seekers. I don't have a blank of the original toon door, because it had cel drawn characters and I didn't need to spend time editing it when I knew I was replacing it altogether.

I always forget about this thread, ha! I'm still creating backgrounds for my vids, but I tend to make alterations as seen here (and layering distant parts with added blur to create a more 3-dimensional effect etc). But if anyone wants to see more backdrops updated in this manner let me know and I'll post more :thumb

Yeah I had a bunch of threads back in the day and I lost track of them all to so been there done that. Don't update the thread for me, I just wanted to give an idea I had a try. The wife bought a green screen for her Team meetings, so I was going to give something a try.

    Thanks again!

Ok so here's a few bits and pieces from the latest video I've been putting together.

    The Decepticon space cruiser site:

    LaserbeakReturnBG.jpg

    CruiserLaserbeakBG.jpg

This panning shot has Soundwave walking across it - here it is as just the background plate. You'll also not get a good look at the first part of the image in the finished vid, as the shot is cross-fading from the previous one as it moves (making the leftmost part a real pain to recreate!):

    SWwalkBG.jpg

Background to an aerial shot of the Bots & Cons battling it out:

    OilBattleSceneBG.jpg

And I'll just throw these in here...

Ha, ok I'll keep it in mind. Lots of MP ReAnimated backgrounds are not much to look at isolated, especially when it's for a close-up shot of a character (I clean up the visible edges around a figure, but take the photo off and you're usually left with a messy blob of toon cel business behind it, such as that medbay scene above - hence why I left the figures in).

Also many of these are not 'pure' backgrounds like the early ones in this thread were, as I've had to interpolate some details that were just not visible due to cel drawings being removed (such as the oil rig battle scene). Hopefully it is done in such a way that you would never know (especially since the MPs cover most of my edits back up again).

While this thread is moving again I may as well say, Hasbro are doing some extremely nice box inserts for the upcoming Studio 86 line, with background art inspired by the movie (and done in a lovely retro art style too). I wonder if they will share those backgrounds anywhere. If not I feel they may be worth scanning (and editing to remove folds etc) and presenting here at some point? Anyway great to see them putting in a bit of extra effort like that to please the fans :thumb

I went through several pages of this thread. These clean backgrounds are incredible! Very good work. Have you created a central location for the uncompressed files yet?

Thanks! There's a link on the first page to Dropbox files of the four High Def images I did (Ark exterior and interior, Power Station landscape, and Decepticon ship interior).

Everything else is built from screen caps from DVD, so resolution is limited (I often up the image size to make them easier to work on, but in visual terms you're seeing the same picture no matter how big you make it!).

ever tried one of these AI upscaling things? Don't know if there's a free website where you could do that, but maybe it could make for great results?

I had a play with that Remini photo enhancer app a while ago, but found it lacking because it only works on the faces and leaves everything else. Haven't seen one that can do general scenes, but if there is something out there it might be worth a shot? I was browsing through this thread again earlier and reminding myself what great artwork was created for G1, it's a shame that the only way we have to view it is via these low res DVD grabs. I suspect even a Blu-Ray version of the series wouldn't be a huge gain in image quality.

What I wouldn't give to see the original painted artwork in person, or reproduced in an art book like the box art Legacy book. I wonder if any of it does exist in a vault somewhere... or if not actual originals maybe high quality reference photos.

first time seeing this thread. reminds me of those photos of empty places at night, or the feeling you get from an I spy book or wandering around an empty video game server. Eerily empty, but also comfortably familiar enough to not scare you. I might also add that sweeping landscapes like these are the very things that made me want to take up art.

Yes I completely agree, well put. Many of these images are like old friends, but seeing them 'still' like this and without their familiar robot inhabitants there's a certain touch of melancholy.

That. I love it when you're watching an old Disney cartoon on BluRay and suddenly it's like artwork where you can see it's hand made.

Back then they often made some nice pictures for TV shows and movies as backgrounds.

I didn't catch the name BLACKROCK before. That's really cool, wish they would have done more with it in the cartoon.

I have some original backgrounds from some random anime and they're cool no matter what they're from. Definitely an art that's being lost.
