I know, I know. This particular custom has been beaten to death so hard ppl are most likely sick of it but I remember seeing F_R's version of Ptitvite Devy when I got back into collecting a cpl of years ago and being in awe and whilst I personally would never pay that kinda money I thought one day I would build one. Herc doesn't cut it anymore for me so he's getting sold. That day is now here.

I'm shying away from the normal 'wooden' Unicron crotch/thighs/knees combo in favour of more articulation. I'm also ditching the waist plate. Maybe it's just me but that just doesn't suit Devastator...it's too big and it seems to throw proportions off. I really like what Helmut did with ankle pivot so will try and work my own version into this too. That being said, c&c is more than welcome and I hope you enjoy the ride in another Devy build  

 

Can't understand why you'd toss a good solid dev out the door for a partforming one.

I do wish you the best of luck, but feel the need to ask....who are you going to use for long haul?

Herc is simply too small. His proportions are shit. He needs loads of Shapeways parts to make him look more acceptable and it still doesn't quite cut it. I like Devastator, I'm not bothered about the individual Constructicons and in the years I've owned Herc he was combined on day one and has never left gestalt mode. This guy is gonna be bigger, stabler, better proportioned and more G1 and this will all be attained by making him permanently the main man. I get ppl have serious problems against 'action masters' but this is for me and built to fit my collection. If I can get this the same size as Warbotron (maybe a touch bigger) then along with their Menasor I'll have the three hulking big S1/2 Decepticon combiners I've always wanted.

Regards parts I will be using the tried and tested 6 bots. It's just the waist/thigh/knee/ankle pivot that I will be 'hopefully' making better. I have toyed with the idea of using some of Herc's parts. I still might do.....nothing is set in stone yet.

EDIT - After thinking about Herc's wonky proportions (which his thighs are really to blame) I pieced together this:



With green knees and silver thighs I reckon this might actually work. Looks like I'll be building two Devastators in tandem  

EDIT 2 - I'll run with this version first then the total scratch build second. Just fitted a more appropriate waist flap....pics to follow later.

 

Yeah, the build has been done over and over but there is just something about this guy. It is such an awesome combiner and so much fun to work on. I like that people are still doing this, I really enjoy seeing all the different variations in the builds. I'm already planning my next one.

 

Cheers bud. Well I'm definitely running with a Hercules rebuild first then decide which one to keep when both are done. Just finished off a more appropriate waist plate after an sublime spot by Irish Carnage:



This version will stand around 19-20" tall when done but I will be using exactly the same hip/thigh/knee configuration with the Ptitvite style build.

 

That is bloody awesome TB. I want to do this to my herc now but I don't have the rage kit dammit. The proportions would look wrong without it.

If it works it'll be pushing him to 21"ish.....pretty much spot on to stand with MP's by my reckoning but yeah the Rage kit is definitely needed here for the bulk up top.

 

This actually does look better, though I am okay with his mismatched somewhat disproportionate look, as he is more of a Frankenstein combiner than those who followed him, but yeah, what you've done looks better than what TFC did.

The hips and legs of the combiners really do suffer

I like this so far, and I agree that Hercules is too small. With MP customs MP-10 scale is the future so we have to try and fit things around that...

Added a part of Primus's torso underneath Heavy Labor to elongate his body a touch and bring it into proportion. Just need to fill the sides in. Tomorrow I'll get him standing hopefully  

I had Quakewave next to him like in the pic above and he makes the ol' one eye look positively small. This should look pretty spot on with MP's. Also. Whereabouts are ppl getting the large G1 style chest plates?

 

That part from primus works perfectly mate! I think he looks bang on proportionally now. Get some scale comparison shots with other mp's on here asap  

 

fuck...that looks way better. it is shocking to see the size difference of the hips/thighs! But I can see why any toy maker would be limited in that regard if you want to remove parts forming and/or making it completely transformable. 21" is huge! Gonna have to get Herc his own car seat to go riding with you, lol

Yeah I really hate Herc's stumpy thighs. Then they went the opposite way with Uranos and made them too long lol

I may have over-estimated a tad. I reckon 19-20" but as long as the larger 'cons are below his crotch that's plenty big enough for me.

 

Awesome. I can't wait to see him towering full height over the other cons. Reckon he'll fit in your detolf without too much hassle?

 

No chance stood upright but in a stooping action pose it should be ok. I was just thinking about this and with him having a double jointed knee I might try get it so he's leaning on one knee getting up.

 

Oh yeah the double jointed knees, that's gonna come in real handy. I want.. nay, need to see some action shots once you're done.

When it's all secure I'll try my best....in the meantime I've done a bit of work on the knee pegs....et voila:



Nothing is permanent yet...it's all holding together on weight alone. Need to trim a bit more off the knee to get a secure fit but yeah....I'm happy with the majority of it. Only thing to do now is try and fashion something so the arms are positioned a little further out so he has a wider look at the shoulders and that should really enhance the proportions a bit more. Really want a bigger chest shield too.
