First off, I'm new to this thread. I'm not sure if this is the correct thread to share my Construct-bots customs. I originally posted these on the toys discussion thread and some people suggested that I post them here to share since they thought they were kind of nice. So I apologize if this isn't the correct forum. I'm a big fan of the Construct-bots and thought I'd share some of my creations here. I hope you like them.
Thanks for all of the compliments. I really appreciate the feedback. In all honesty, I'm not sure how many pieces and sets I used to create the Ultra Magnus. I buy multiple sets of each character, and I'll just organize all of the pieces in plastic bins -- and when I create a new one, I'll just pick the pieces out from my bins -- so I easily lose track of which set the piece originally came from. For the Ultra Magnus, I did use maybe 3 sets of Thundercracker (for all of the teal colored parts). I also used scout class Bumblebee's skeleton, and various pieces from the Optimus double pack with Megatron. Here's some additional info on the Magnus: head=repainted Ironhide with two antennas made from the teeth of a comb -- they slot into the back of Ironhide's head chest=optimus with Thundercracker's shin armor plate. shoulder cannons=prime's guns and smokestacks inner skeleton=scout bumblebee leg, feet=megatron's shin armor plates and Thundercracker's shin armor plates back=two skeletal leg pieces with megatron's shoulder/blade armors -- they're pegged onto the skeletal frame I buy a lot of extra sets for parts, so I don't recall how many of each set that I had to use. I hope this helps.
Like I'd said in the other thread, great work man! I really love this and will seriously be thinking of picking up the sets required to build that beast
Thanks for all of the nice things. Here are more photos of Magnus from the back, to give you a clearer idea of how I assembled things. I play around a lot with the pieces, trying to figure out different ways to connect things. When I made Magnus, I wanted to keep his proportions right and I think the color scheme was important in being able to identify the character. I think I used about 2 or 3 Thundercracker sets to get all of the teal colored pieces for the armor. head=repainted Ironhide with two antennas made from the teeth of a comb -- they slot into the back of Ironhide's head chest=optimus with Thundercracker's shin armor plate. shoulder cannons=prime's guns and smokestacks inner skeleton=scout bumblebee leg, feet=megatron's shin armor plates and Thundercracker's shin armor plates back=two skeletal leg pieces with megatron's shoulder/blade armors -- they're pegged onto the skeletal frame I buy a lot of extra sets for parts, so I don't recall how many of each set that I had to use. I hope this helps anyone trying to recreate it.
Construct-Bots Starscream and Roller. Here are two more custom Construct-Bots that I recently made -- Generation 1-inspired Starscream and Optimus Prime's sidekick Roller...
You sir are genius. Please keep us updated with all your customs. This really temp me to get the Constructobots set.
I love how you managed to fill a lot of the gaps and make them a more cohesive robot out of these sets. Do any of them still transform without a lot of partsforming or just bot modes for now?
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback and compliments. In all honesty, I was very lukewarm to the Construct-Bots until I bought my second set -- once I started treating them like LEGOS, and mixing and matching sets --> I really saw their versatility and potential to make cool, fun stuff.
Thanks! I'm not a big fan of the hallow-looking limbs and torso. Unfortunately, none of mine transform. I just focus on the bot modes --> I'm a big fan of mech and robot design, so that's pretty much my goal in making each one. Thanks!
I built a Decepticon combiner out of construct-bots. It was based on some of your concepts. Would you like me to send you pics?
wow! super duper cool may i ask what pieces were used for the optimus primes jetpack, arm cannons, and feet? thanks, KO
