Hey guys,

I'm getting a lot of negative reviews about this and need UNBIASED opinion. I've already decided not to release this, but wonder if there's any salvaging the hard work I did? I understand the pattern is too busy. Should I redesign this with no armor at all? Or make the armor just simple silver? Or just never release this at all?

 

I think that fits really well, honestly.

 

this is awesome. though i feel there should be more of a matt finish on the stickers because the gloss honestly takes awary for the surface detail of the toy

 

I'd say change the armor to simple silver. And less of it too...maybe lose the ones on the bulll nose. The "crosses" on the robot knee also seem very out of place to me.

 

Anything in place of the crosses? Or ditch that shape?

 

As someone who doesn't own the figure nor intends to buy it and also has no emotional attachment to the character or previous figures...

I kind like it. I think the only part that I don't really like is the shiney stuff on the animal shoulders both front and back. By that I mean the stickers that end up on bot upper arms and the similar ones that are on beast mode back legs. I think perhaps a darker grey would look good there. But I do like those style stickers on the cannon as you have them.

So for me the arm/leg ones are the only ones of that set I likely wouldn't use if I had this figure and the stickers.

 

I would say keep the "textured armour" sticker for the robot mode chest, and the Predaking foot. Seems accurate for some reason. Skip the stickers on the animal head altogether. The rest of the stickers should be simple silver.

Not sure what to do about the knee crosses.

Okay... what about this?

1) Keep the pattern for the abs and Predaking foot
2) Change the leg armor to matte silver with rivets and black outline... no pattern.
3) Lose the knee crosses
4) Change the bull head panels to red (only black outlines and rivets... no silver)

 

This is exactly what I thought when I looked at it.

 

yeah i second the thought of losing the "face metal" it doesn't flow, but i did love the nose ring

 

Old school gold riveted stickers instead would be nice for the bull head, and shoulders,loose the brass armour pattern. The hip pieces, bull nose, insignia all look good. Less is more

 

I honestly think what you have looks great. Why not release it along with a silver variation and let the end user apply what they like?

That sounds much better. I'd lose the armor pattern on the Predaking hand too

 

This will take it from a cool design to a really great one. Don't let the nitpickers get to you, you and your crew have always shown a great sense of design.

 

I have Bovis and am looking to complete Feral Rex. I would personally prefer stickers that mimic the ones on the G1 toy plus Decepticon signs in the right places..





Also, I don't think you're getting enough input from Feral Rex fans in this thread. I suggest soliciting comments in the Feral Rex thread (on top of what we've already seen so far).

 

I like it for the most part, but I probably wouldn't buy it.

Love the nose ring, hate the knee cross things.

 

What Archieboy said---go a bit more G1 style for the details on the silver bits. The "robotic detail bits" stickers for the FP Stunticons very clearly are copying the original G1 designs----do that for the Feral Rex bots.

Specifically:
Make all the silver bits simple plain chrome (no texture pattern), with few/small/G1 details. Eliminate the nose stickers---but keep the "cheek" ones. Do not cover any orange bits on the beast-mode legs with silver. Only cover the grey areas with chrome.

The "crosses" by the knees seem really out of place. Putting a sticker there is good IMHO, just---not a B&W cross. Surely a design from the original G1 Tantrum stickers would work?

Between his knees and ankles, in robot mode---the twin horizontal grooves---silver stickers to fill them in, very much like the TFC Herc bots got for their forearms. If there's one paint app I think MMC missed on this figure, it'd be that--especially since the similar twin grooves in the shoulder armor WERE painted silver. We need stickers to make all those grooves silvery and matching. (so really, need stickers for the shoulder grooves too, just so they and the shin-grooves would match) (or possibly, do these grooves in black--G1 Tantrum has entirely black lower legs, so more black may appeal more to the G1-lovers)

For the combiner feet----on the sides of the "arch" there's those twin "angular teardrop" depressions---I thought they'd look good "filled in"---black, or chrome, or something. Don't add stickers to blocky raised sections, fill in the depressions. The sticker on the front of the arch is a nice idea, I'm just not sure on the look. I do like the subtle insignia there. (don't make it bright and purple, IMHO)

Overall: G1 Predaking has tons of chrome/gold stickers. Tantrum had the one obvious "hex-pattern" sticker on his chest--but MMC already molded that into the figure itself, so that feature is 100% taken care of. Everything else should be smooth---Predaking's own feet and fists should have no "texture" IMHO, as well as the rest of Tantrum/Bovis. The "rivets along the edge" is a common theme with Predaking--see RazorClaw and Rampage's gold stickers, and Headstrong's beast-mode shoulders. While Tantrum didn't have them---it'd sure look "appropriate" if he did on some areas. As well as on the combiner feet/fists. Just a few little dots/spots around the edges--it's a very "Predaking" detail, and it's nicely subtle. Like he has armor plates "bolted on" to him.
