Wow that reflective tape with the lines/pattern honecomb style on it im assuming that's the tape you got, does it have a specific name and can you list the brand / picture for it ?

That looks great! Could take some pics without the flash? I'm curious to see what it looks like in normal light.

I think the DOT tape is it. It has a nice enough grain/noise to be used for most applications. But you're right, by tastefully combining those 2 types you can make anything look good.

Sorry to ply you with so many questions, but I don't suppose they come in other colors (purple, green, yellow) for different factions?

Minus the Autobot Logo being blocked out with the reflective tape... this looks AMAZING. I'm surprised this isn't done more often tbh.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did... but not necessarily from Home Depot though.

Quick search in Amazon showed this purple tape: http://www.amazon.com/Reflective-Cy...15743&sr=8-16&keywords=purple+reflective+tape though it's precut to thinner strips.

Wouldn't be surprised if they could take clear-color paint well too. So if you can find a silver/white one, that could be viable. Maybe this reflexite stuff would work? Not the cheapest tho. =. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=bl_sr_hi?_encoding=UTF8&field-brandtextbin=Reflexite&node=228013

I've looked on ebay and came across red white blue and yellow. For 1 roll of 5 meters I think runs about 12 bucks. I've not seen purple which would be great. But in the game all wfc/foc glow is pink right?

The autobot symbol is a large white on clear background put on top of the reflective tape and carefully cut around to give a nice even border. Like I said this is a wip but I was eventually going to go over the white lines on the symbol to bring it out. Plus all of the faction symbols are cyb glow so it fits.

Thanks for the info. Will keep an eye out the next I'm in a hardware store.

Welp, purple or pink, it varies between people, right? There didn't seem to be an empirical standard between WFC, FOC and the concept art. I think it's cool to let individual customizers choose. Clear colours on white tape is good thinking.

Thanks guys. And thanks CodeXCDM for the Amazon links. It gives you a pretty good selection of colors on that 1st link. That's probably the way to go, but not sure of the patterns if any on there. I can't see it well enough.

You will be surprised just how long it takes to do this lol. Be prepared to spread it out over several weekends. Also what do you guys think of using the Chrome tape?

Simple, very effective, looks amazing and yes, the chrome effects are nice as well. Guess I know what me ans my little bot will do over the next few months since it gets darker earlier in my neck of the woods. Thanks for sharing cause I really didn't want to mess with all the factory decals, they are nice but not BAM!! eye catching as this.

I already have mine all stickered up, so I am going to do areas that are bare, or need a little bit more detail. I have some large silver/chrome outline bot emblems that would like great over the tape cut to shape

Looks awesome! I'll bite on the chrome tape- how forgiving is it? I was about to order some bare metal foil, but as waiting to see someone try it first. This seems to have picked up the details very well. How tough is it, is it staying in place around th thigh swivels?

Man the air duct Chrome tape is awesome to work with. It seems to be the same thickness as regular tin foil, but has a very strong adhesive. It can be tricky to work with if you allow to. Once in place, it holds and does not move. It can be removed but will leave spotty remains of adhesive which can easily be removed with Goo or Oops brand adhesive, paint, marker remover from your local walmart or comparable super center in your area. It will take a dent if you hit the surface, rub a hard corner from another moving piece across it, etc. If you do that by accident don't worry, you can always use a micro fiber cloth to smooth it back out but you will always be able to tell it happened as it will never be as good as a fresh application. But sometimes scars or dents can be made to look worn and fit the look you are trying to achieve with your custom. Take an old junker (and I know every collector has some junkers), and practice on some little details and see how brings out the details. It form fits very well. It will never be a perfect angular detail in some tight areas, but is Very effective if done right and can be used In a Myriad of ways. Do you want a true metallic base on a surface and want a weathered look? or add rust effects? Whatever your mind can imagine is the limit.

In fact the use of the Chrome tape far Eclipses the usefulness of the reflective tape and to me is the clear winner overall between the 2 tips I've provided here. I'm sure this will lead to some very interesting customs and I will be looking to see how much of an impact it will have on future customs. I can't wait!

I am glad someone else stumbled upon this! I had no idea it was not widely used more... I have used reflective tape in the past in my pre-LED days. I got frustrated with it on smaller figures but when correct the effects are awesome. Here was the brand I used (believe I got it from Amazon and eBay):

    Scotch Reflective Tape :3M US
