I have always loved Thunderclash, but never owned one, so I finally got off my arse to do one. I found a SW crossover Clone Commander Cody at a yard sale for like $2, so I grabbed him straight away and set to work on Thunderclash. Now I do not know if I want to to keep him a crossover, or just fully repaint his alt-mode to try and do a WFC/FOC version of him, but at the moment I love his bot mode Oh, this is my strongest attempt for a clean almost factory repaint for a custom that I have ever done (usually, I'm a messy dry brushing fiend), so I hope I did okay. hope you mates enjoy:
That is quite possibly the cleanest paintjob I have ever seen in my entire life. I am practically speechless at how good this looks.
Now this is an excellent use of the Star Wars crossover mould. Honestly, I'd like to see more of these [ie; Death Star as Skyquake, Millennium Falcon as Fastlane and Cloudbreaker, etc;]
I do love a good Thunderclash custom! Not a mold I would have thought about using, but by gum it works! Really nice paintwork indeed. A Hot Rod head is a nice idea, but it does look a little on the small size. Maybe an energon Rodimus head would be a better size? Or one of these Classics Thunderclash Head by Venksta on Shapeways - I used that on a custom Thunderclash I made from Classic Prime. I would love to see a fully painted alt mode!
Great to see someone else giving some love to the Star Wars molds. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one using them for customs. Super clean painting, especially for such a pain in the @ss to paint mold. I agree with others about the head. Deluxe heads are just to small for the molds. That's why I've used voyager heads on all mine. I wish I could give you a suggestion on what head to use but nothing comes to mind right now.
Here is the insignia that I drew up for his chest(I opted the blue because I really liked how the insignia was blue in Cyberverse commander of TF: Prime Optimus 2-pack with predaking). I'm going to attempt to make this into a label approximately 1 inch wide for his chest
Thanks mate! I do believe there are plenty of vets here who are lightyears better than me, and it is to them that I have to thank on their insight into brush painting, so Thank you mates! Thanks! I am actually waiting for the paint to fully cure before I attempt a transformation (being my first clean paintjob and all, don't want to chip it sooner than need be). Aye, That was my thinking on the whole crossovers idea, so he may stay as-is, but I may actually be leaning for a full repaint Thanks mate! Hey that means a lot from you mate! Big fan of your clean work, and your work always serve as a source of inspiration for me. Gives me a level of excellence to strive for, so Thanks! Thank you mate! I actually opted the smaller head to give him that anime-style "look" (I've done it for a few characters now)... I have seen Venksta's head and although I love his skill, I dislike the aesthetic for me. it's cool mate, I would have used Energon roddy's head, but I only have one (thanks to a good mate of mine on this forum), and I was not going to sacrifice him for this. as i said in the above post though, the smallness of the head does not seem to bother me too tough, I rather like it me thinks Well ThunderClash is probably the coolest UK Autobot. I mean you've got Hoist, Grapple, and a few others, but ThunderClash is arguably the man. Thunder Clash - Transformers Wiki me too
Would have never guessed this came from a Cody figure (although he was one of the few Crossovers that really seemed to cross over well).
Thanks mate! Aye, Cody does work well, He'd be epic if he had better shoulder and thigh articulation, but I can dig it
