Wasn't planning on doing this since it's an really expensive toy over here... but since Spoonman's and sum others modded theirs, I could no longer wait First of all thnx to Spoon's, for some pointer which made my work easier and gave me faith! So I'll try to give my own spin on it and share how I did it [more info will follow] I decide to put the sirens in the leftover holes in the shoulder for 2 purposes: 1. it fills the holes + makes a wider sirene stance in robot mode 2. the Ladder base it will house lights & sounds (which will guide and light-up the sirens via piping) the new chest is also the new rear bumper and will be used in Defensor mode! UPDATE1: Sorry for the crappy phone pics my GF is already asleep, its now 1:38 we wake up @ 7:00 so I'm also tired as hell Next update will have better pics worked so many hours on that stupic ladder Grrrrrr still i think its to big *sigh* but I did managed a nifty hinge made out of lego's and cutting etc. plus obviously added some G1 bits from the original Hotspot UPDATE2: again making the ladder smaller and some extra's UPDATE3: I guess this is the last update until I get the chance to find a better ladder.. I will be attending the BOTS convention and look for it there So far I decide to invert the toes, giving it a better look for him... also that gave me enough space to convert chest into the ladder base! Then it struck me, the former sirens cut in half work as excellent taillights
RESERVED for HOW-TO This is gonna be the best TUT ever, but I guess some might find it handy (but remember u can always ask sum extra help) The picture show 1 side untouched and the other one had been altered with 1 single dremel pass through (i believe you can also check the other pics so you might have an idea in which line the cut needs to be made) Whoops forgot 1 step.. see the faded pencil cirkle, thats how I determined the exact center location for drilling.. After that replace the regular screw with same type (only longer obviously) After you switch the shoulder by just simply screwing & swapping (yup sounds dirty ) cut/grind/slice the corner like I did on (former) right shoulder (now in the left side) the reason is so the hinge will fit (see 3rd pic below, only pic where it kinda shows) After that revert to the same 3rd picture (also mirrored below) and cut along the same height as the cab (note: I did this with a dremel without removing the pins, so bit by bit I let the metal cool down until I was completely through) I then unscrewed the sides again, so I cut out the window (remember I used a horizontal cut first exactly between the black of the window and the blue above the hotspot sticker) then a vertical cut to completely remove the window (clean up after) also don't forget the small blue strip which needs to be glued where it previously attached in alt-mode! THATS ALL FOR NOW
This looks great! Bot mode looks much better. I'll keep checking this thread. I'm working on a new Defensor. Top work mate
Dude......I'm expecting this fig soon and was thinking how I could make him look a bit more G1. Awesome stuff!
thnx can't wait 2 c it dude if any1 can u can!!! goodluck & thnx! Just patience and practice my fellow Radicon thank you! much appreciated dude hey dude glad that u where able 2 drop by, me 2 but Defensor is gonna hold until I paint up my Bruticus (it's been way 2 long overdue, awaiting new airbrush) --MORE INFO 2MROW--
I was thinking he'd look even better with a bit of red on his chest......what figs are you using for Defensor's limbs?
Badass! May I suggest adding wigwams ( flashing police/ fire lights) so you get a true Fire truck feel http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/777439-generations-hotspot-working-fire-truck.html
Your work looks good. However, if you're trying to make a tutorial of some sort, I'd encourage you to make a step-by-step explanation. Reference one of our already-sourced tutorials for more on that.
ofcrs i'll try 2 come up with something heavy modded Wreckgar or my previous Groove (check my Movie Defensor) red alert/prowl universe blades (i think or I might heavy-mod a tomahawk) wish I could use universe ratchet, but that 1 cost me a fortune so I might scratch build one well thnx for the suggestion, but i'll just used whatever I have available thank you sir already made big changes to the TUT part BTW big update 2nyt! (my local time)
LOL thnx dude! hehe UPDATE1: Sorry for the crappy phone pics my GF is already asleep, its now 1:38 we wake up @ 7:00 so I'm also tired as hell Next update will have better pics worked so many hours on that stupic ladder Grrrrrr still i think its to big *sigh* but I did managed a nifty hinge made out of lego's and cutting etc. plus obviously added some G1 bits from the original Hotspot
You're doing well with this. A few suggestions for a more "formal" tutorial: Equipment list. For someone wanting to replicate this, consider that a person is clicking on this with absolutely no clue as to what you're doing. What tools are needed? Is the GDO Hot Spot the only figure needed? I'm guessing not since I'm seeing parts from a G1 Hot Spot as well as the ladder assembly from a RiD Prime. Clarity in communication. Now, I tend to help in this area quite a bit when I actually resource articles, but sound grammar really clears up communication. Resourcing tutorials here is something I enjoy, but they go up a LOT quicker with the less amount of work I have to do (that goes for photo attachments as well). At any rate, I wanted to continually push you to help you make things the best they can be here. You're doing some excellent work, and have been for a while. Keep it up!
Thnx again DUDE! Hey dude, thank for dropping by I'm a big fan of your work so I'm honored! Thnx for the advice you're absolutely right I'll be updating the tutorial part.. but eventually when done do you think this thread can keep existing, so that a different thread solely can function as the tutorial part? UPDATE3: I guess this is the last update until I get the chance to find a better ladder.. I will be attending the BOTS convention and look for it there So far I decide to invert the toes, giving it a better look for him... also that gave me enough space to convert chest into the ladder base!
