Here are some pictures of the head I completed to be used as a replacement head for the Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters Optimus Prime voyager class figure. I also created a new neck joint with a ball joint that will replace the existing one. Test models should be in hand in 2 weeks. If all works out, they will be available on Shapeways.

Edit: Just got the head and neck in and they came out great! The neck joint is a bit tight, but that is a good thing. The head was about 5% to small, so I scaled it up and updated the model on Shapeways. The neck joint is a direct replacement of the factory version, but now has a ball joint! Please let me now what you think!!

    A) does it still fit for transformation?

    B) how do you recommend removing the existing joint?

    C) when can I get one?!?

    Awesome work.

Great questions! :p  The neck joint is a VERY easy one to remove. I will do a short video tutorial showing how this weekend. It is a simple as popping out a single pin.

    This is sweet!
    2 questions
    1. Would this neck joint fit FE Prime's head
    2. Is the frosted ultra detail the best finish to go with?

    Thanks

Very nice! Will you be doing an Optimus with proper face (mouth Guard removed), something like Dr. Wu's FE head? Wouldn't mind having one of those too;)

Looks so nice....but can you make a replace head for the TFP FE Voyager Optimus.....im in need of one so bad. ...And while you are at it can you try making one without the mask please that would be so awesome....cuz the dr.wu version does seem to have a bumpy surface

It is great to see there are a few of us really committed to improving this guy!

You've got the head covered, I'm working on his gun, now if we can just beef up his chest.

Also did you design the ball joint to be the same size as other optimus figures? I mean if I wanted to use a FE head (w/ Sage face) would it fit?

Is it at all possible to get new neck joints that fit FE and RID, and one that fits the FE Deluxe head for those that want the head to look slightly smaller like in the show?

Update for those that ordered the Beast Hunters Optimus Prime head add on..... it seems that SOME people are getting rejection emails saying the model can not print.... have no fears! The issue was that the post between the 2 pieces was literally 0.3mm to long. I have since fixed the issue and you can all reorder the piece using the credit that Shapeways issued you. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience!

I've never ordered from Shapeways. This will be my first. What's the best finish to use?

Depends on you desires! Frosted Ultra Detail will give you the BEST detail possible, but is fragile. I have tested this model in White Strong Flexible Polished and I am very happy with the results.

Think this might have to be my first shapeways purchase as well. I need to repaint the head to match what I did with the rest anyway, so why not an unpainted and infinitely better head to start.

I have honestly never attempted to paint anything that requires small details like this before. I was wondering which between the Coral Red S&F P (to match the red) or the Royal Blue S&F P (to match the actual blue color) matches the colors of the BH Prime better. I would like as little paint as possible (of course I need to paint the silver). If they both don't match would you recommend dye over paint for someone like me?
Thanks for the help in advance!
