ive done this on mine and theres some improvement but one shoulder is still a bit loose. i feel like ive already filed alot off and dont want to do too much more. what would happen if i hypothetically filed too much off?
The legs would be unable to fit in place for the alt-modes. And it sounds like your copy might just have shallow slots on the shoulders, which can make even a direct connection really loose. I'd suggest trying the added blocks solution before shaving any more.
ill check the altmodes before i do anymore. was thinking about doing the added blocks anyway. between the 2 i would be set my torso has an ever so slight gap so id say that part should be sanded well but the pegs may need a bit.more. id say i probably havent taken off a milimeter yet. edi-did a bit more sanding and i would call it a success. thanks snake_eyes!
I did this mod on my Blitwing last weekend and I'm super happy with the results. Awesome tutorial vid by the way Snake Eyes
Okay, I did the sanding down version and I noticed some things: First, one of the causes of the problem might be the slightly rubbery piece on the back of the robot mode the shoulder pieces and the turret are attached to. The rubbery piece on my Blitzwing was slightly warped, resulting in one shoulder causing a bigger problem than the other one. Please make sure the rubbery piece isn't deformed BEFORE you sand down the torso. A non-deformed rubbery piece should touch the back of the shoulders on both sides equally. If it's warped, you can bring it back into shape by heating it up with a hairdryer (be CAREFUL with the amount of heat you subject your plastic toy to!) and then carefully forcing it into shape with your hands until it has cooled down. The second thing is that if you sand down too much plastic on the torso, it could result in stability problems for the tank mode. The robot legs are held in place by two pegs each, and with a sanded down torso, the two pegs and the corresponding slots might not align properly anymore, resulting in too much pressure that will make the legs pop off from the torso piece, resulting in an unstable tank mode. On a more positive note, it seems like I got one of the few Blitzwings with a pretty much flawless face-changing gimmick, rotating with barely any resistance whatsoever.
Thank you That is awesome, I am going to try this on mine for sure. saves me #30 instead of buying the 3rd party fix.
Finally bought a Blitzwing last night and I did this mod. I have to say it worked only on mine what would be his left arm is not as tight as the right. I also took out the spring from inside the nosecone and when I transform it, the nosecone sits flush with the rest. Other than that I love it!!! Thanks for finding this Snake!
Geez now I feel the need to go transform my Blitzwing and see if he has this problem, he's been sitting in tank mode since forever lol. Any fix for the nose or should I just buy a 3p upgrade since I don't really care about the face rotation gimmick?
I'm writing here because i only recently decided to swap out my TR Blitz and found by chance a new solution for the shoulders, but since it's an extra step for this guide i tought opening a new thread was pretty useless even if this is pretty old. Here's what i did: After sanding the parts they were tighter but still popped off so i grabbed a CW Cyclonus and swapped 4 of his screws with the ones on Blitzwing's back, now it's super solid even with the tighter arms of the Takara version, Cyclonus too has no problem staying togheter with the slightly shorter screws. I hope this will help someone else who wanted to still fix this mold without add-ons in 2019
Nice bro! I still have my OG 30 blitz that I did this one with. still works great, and besides Gewalt, its my fav blitzwing to date..vastly better than the TR if you ask me
I wish the CHUG scale had a figure like Gewalt...I had the Generations Blitzwing from Hasbro but i was unhappy with it even with the add-ons, so when it came out i bought the Legends version of TR Blitzwing, the colors are really nice and the proportions are great but recently i got tired of that one too, the articulation is a real letdown and also i don't mind it beign an headmasters but at least you should be able to store the head decently in both modes... In the end i tried again with the Generations one, but this time the Takara version, the joints are great on it and the colors in-hand are incredible, much better than in photos, also the yellow head realy completes the look, with the fix it's now one of my favourites.
Some quick questions: 1. What screws did you take from Cyclonus? 2. Are those screws the same on any figure from that mold? I have an extra CW Scattershot that I wouldn't mind junking to do this. Thanks
I removed the 4 screws from the legs/combiner chest, as for the other copies of the mold i have only Silverbolt and the screws are identical, also i swapped them with the ones fron Blitzwing and the shorter lenght doesn't seem to affect the figure.
