Someone previously mentioned that the screw-hole on Grimlock's dino-crotch can be widened to become a peg-hole to store his sword. Then I posted that with the sword there, the shield can be loosely wedged between his legs to cover up his belly a little better, and the sword will kind of hold it in place. I improved this by creating little slots to hold his shield in place more tightly. It works awesome! I can shake this guy all around now, and the shield and sword stay perfectly in place, and the annoying hollow-ness of his underside is completely covered. If you're interested, here's how I did it (learn from my stupid mistakes!): (1) I shaved away some of the plastic on Grimlock's belly, hoping I could just wedge the shield between the bits where I cut away. (2) I realized that wouldn't work because the sword peg prevented the shield from going up that far. (3) I realized that I would have to artificially build up the plastic so the shield could lock in without needing to be pushed farther than the sword would allow. (4) I used testor's plastic cement to, layer by layer, build up the plastic to a point where the shield could lock into place. (5) I realized that that cement is supposed to be put on in thin layers to glue pieces of plastic together, not gobbed on real thick to bulk up plastic. Thus, the thick gob of glue took a week and a half to dry fully solid. (6) After the week and a half passed and I tried to put the shield on, I realized the gap (where the shield locks in) was a little too wide for the shield to hold tightly, so I brushed a few layers of super glue onto my now-dried-gobs-of-plastic-cement to tighten the gap a little bit. (7) I put the shield on, and it popped into place perfectly. Voila! Thankfully my mistakes are on a part of the toy that is nearly invisible in bot mode, and (now) totally covered up by the shield in dino-mode. Now I love Grimlock. Rawr.
Nice. I use my Grimlock as a cereal bowl. Grimlock can see why kids love the taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
That's a great post. It's just like this and so many other customs: NOM NOM NOM NOM YUMMY! Great work here! I especially appreciate the insight to the creative process
