After a day delay, here is the fifth figure in my Seacon set! All are the result of about three years of parts scrounging, patience, scratchbuilding, and a little procrastination. Most of the figures in the set owe their existence to no less than four different toys (in some cases up into the double digits in donor figures) and all have an element of scratchbuilding as well. This team was the template for my Stunticon group that I released last year, and Piranacon will share the same "frame style" combined mode. I took a different approach with the alt modes on them. I found the original "Sea Monster" concept kind of silly, and have changed up the creatures to be a little more menacing (doing away with Tentakil's "Sigmund the Sea Monster" mode, and changing Skalor's Coelacanth monster to the far more powerful and intimidating Dunkleostus.) I also made a conscious effort to have the bot-modes represent different body types (slim, stocky, short, tall, etc.,) because it adds a little visual interest to the set, and mirrors one of the few things I like about the recent selection of retail sets (Animated, and Prime series showcasing different bot body styles.) I also limited the color pallette to a total of 4 base colors to further unify the group, and serve a more cohesive combined mode. I alos did away with the weapon modes for each, as they looked like an afterthough on Hasbro's part with the originals, and I did not want mine to suffer the same issue (3 modes were hard enough to come up with!) For whatever reason, I wanted to steer clear of a straight shark mode for Overbite. Possibly because I haven't liked any of the "shark" characters from recent series. Since I went prehistoric with Skalor, I did a search for prehistoric sharks, and found one that I thought looked pretty cool. It looked like a mix of a shark and a ray (or something stuck in between.) For the life of me I can't find the image again, but the bulkier form stuck with me. This also gave me the opportunity to have a bulkier bot mode, which I thought better represented the "undersea terminator" of the Seacons. He uses parts from 5 different Transformers, and 3 Zoid kits. There is also a good mix of scratchbuilding on him as well. He becomes the right leg of Piranacon. Enjoy!
Even the shark from "Jaws" would swim for his life from your Overbite! EXCELLENT WORK AS USUAL!!! Can wait to see them all together as Piranacon! Assuming you engineered you Seacons to combine!
The wait between figures feels soo long! You are a master, I'll be sad to see this finished in it's presentation.
I definitley think this, out of the five revealed so far, strikes the perfect balance. Many of the others have a little more of the Baysthetic but this retains a LOT of the G1 flavour. My personal favourite so far. Btw, I'm studying marine bio right now and the manta/shark you mentioned kind sounds like a Bowmouth guitar shark...they're an extant species though.
SB already confirmed they will combine. Curious about what type of ports he'll be using and if one of these guys ends up as a weapon. Pity the overall target master gimmick was dropped here.
I'm intrigued by this lack of any obvious combiner ports. I need to go back to your Menasor and see what you did there.
