What are your thoughts on how to release this kit?

  2. Take up to 1 year to design & release via 3rd party. I can WAIT so I don't have to PAINT.

  3. Do both Shapeways (release soon) and 3rd party. (KO's will likely happen but I want the original)

Thanks Man...EXACTLY...available at most retail stores, this is the product guys...this is the product:

Ok, polishing a turd isn't the easiest thing. The hold up lately has been some pretty heavy-duty modelling.

The key here are the articulated feet. I simply am not happy with a central toe swivel...the feet appear to be floating and the stability just isn't there. So I'm switching to more of a "Fansproject Bruticus" ankle pivot. I'm planning on roughly 10mm of angle pivot. That should help with a nice broad stance. This is FAR more ambitious from a geometry/CAD/mechanical standpoint, but will make a much better product in the end.

Here's WIP, you can see the pivots and the ratchets and the reference geometry as I re-model and blend all the parts back together (it will look better when I'm done):

Here's a better view with a slight pivot

That looks NICE. Seriously, if this all comes together like you're putting it together, it'll be ONE AMAZING set.

PS: Word of warning to Firefox people, I couldn't view the pictures, had to go on Chrome for a sec :p

Umm, in those WIP shots, the Swindle foot seems to have an ankle joint for the left. Are you going to be making both the feet add-ons as right and left? (if that makes any sense)

^^ Hey you're right I did it backwards...oops...thank goodness for the ability to mirror in CAD...easy fix.

I'll just release one sided feet, so Swindle will be his right leg.

@Slimshadow: had no idea, was it just this thread? Photobucket issue, perhaps?

This is looking more and more amazing. As for polishing a turd, it has been proven by Mythbusters that you really can (they did it). Google it for a good laugh.

I'm digging the foot but the further this goes, the more I'm worried about the cost. Between buying 3 full sets and finding someone to paint them, I'm looking at a small fortune now -.-

Perhaps the issue was only temporary. I'm using Firefox, and I can see your renders fine.

And while I'm here, allow me to add my support, encouraging words, pledge to purchase, and acknowledgement of all the valuable and hard work you're sharing with us!

Dude I think you're making this too complex.

It's gonna end up being too expensive. :(

Echo does excellent work, as I bought basically two Hercules upgrade kits from him! I for one love all the small details he's doing to Bruticus. I plan on buying everything as well as any additional parts he plans to make. I mean if he wasn't taking his time and hard work doing this, I highly doubt anyone else would have...? Third party companies don't care about the pathetic looking toy apparently. I'm not trying to pis anyone off here, just saying he does great work and he builds these parts with as little material as necessary to keep total costs low.

    minor change to the hands

Since I have the room to do so on these larger hands I took the opportunity to move the thumb joint over a bit and replace the peg-in joint with a ball joint that can swivel around the hand to allow for more realistic posing. I'm debating if I have the room to replace the paper-clip-axle joints of the fingers with pop-in hinge joints... I think I can do 1.5mm tabs on the joints... you think that's too small or should be okay? Each finger is ~4.5mm wide so I think it might work...

I'll do up the model and you tell me what you think.

Looks really good WulongTi. I think having the thumbs poseable that way is going to look awesome. Are you using WSF? If so, I use +\- 0.015" or 0.4mm as a worst case tolerance, so if your tabs still work at 1.3mm and 1.7mm you should be fine.

So glad you're making these...they are going to make Bruticus look incredible!

No price has been announced yet, so why worry? I have the first version of the feet and im not satisfied, so its likely many others wouldn't. I am very experienced with Shapeways and know how to get costs down as low as possible...I say enjoy the ride... :)

    Hey thanks!

Huh? No price has been announced...

    Thanks man...

Thanks man, to be honest my tolerances have been much tighter, about 0.25mm so I should probably make some adjustments...

I'll work on it tomorrow morning before work and get back to you.

thanks guys :)  Daim, it's a blow up of my kreon combiner hand that I've been modifying so the back looks the same as that one. It wouldn't hurt to look up some reff pics though to make it more game accurate...
