    OMG THAT THING LOOKS AWESOME
(and a side note, why not make a variation with some articulation? that would rock XD) but as it is, is still wonderful

That is awesome!! I would love to see a Prowl. I think you can find a good market for doing other unreleased Robot Heroes. Like Sideswipe!

This guy looks great! Well done - I love custom Robot Heroes :D

They never did Prowl? Never knew that. I'd have done one ages ago if I knew there was a demand for him.

excellent work Nyarlahotep, truly. Fits in the style of the Robot Heroes quite well. How were you able to balance them to make sure they wouldn't rock and would be stable?

It was kind of a happy accident. I tried to duplicate the exact positioning of the original toy, but I've heard complaints that it toppled over easily so I just adjusted the foot position. I exported from zbrush and then imported into maya and lined up the grid to make a visual check for balance. It looked good, and ordered a few.

I was really psyched to see that it balanced so well. It sits completely flat and the details really transferred over beautifully.

Is the material used the same as the original RHs?

The material is definitely different, but it's similar. Depending on what you choose there is a big difference in quality, but it's not that big of a deal. The one that's painted on the first page is the WSF (white, strong, and flexible) and it's the cheapest.

I'll be applying a gloss coat to it, with final decals and it should look almost 1:1 with the Robot Hero version. I'll be painting up Buzzsaw using FD (Frosted Detail) so we can see the difference.

Love the way he turned out!

Could you make a list of the paints you used? (Brand etc.)

Can't wait for mine to show up. :)

So the first step I used was dying the figures. I filled a reusable coffee cup with water and added black RIT dye. I put the figure in the mixture then microwaved it for five sessions of 20 seconds back to back. The WSF will require you do this 3 times to get it as black as it can get while the Detail material will only take 1 time. Let the water cool completely, then removed the figure, dab dry and let it sit over night for the dye to soak in completely. I should have just bought the black material from shapeways, haha.

I ended up painting the WSF black to get it completely black. I used Citadel acrylics for this. I went on to detail everything else with the same brand. Make sure you get the "BASE" versions of those paints so you don't have to do a ton a coats like I did. I bought the "SHADE" versions by accident and I had to coat the things like 12 times. I then used a glossy clear coat to give them a Robot Heroes look. The silver paint I used turned a slightly different color after I gloss coated - which was weird, so I just repainted the silver parts.

It was a great learning experience working with these materials, and the next batch will be slightly different.
