Thanks guys! Yeah I'm going to have to do that. The hairspray on glass wasn't enough. Thanks! I can't wait to have this piece finished. It already has a new home waiting which is pretty exciting too. Here's the latest. Finally got a successful wheel hub with correct detail and no corner curling. This is straight off the printer, no sanding or cleaning. I thought this would be fun to see. Here is an animated GIF I created from Repetier, the printing software (Warning: 6.6MB GIF). This is a visual representation of the G-Code, the instructions that tells the extruder where to move and how much filament to extrude. Creating the G-Code is what's called slicing the model. You set the layer print height and it cuts the model into layers and has instructions on each layer where to move the extruder. With the visual representation you can see how it builds the model layer-by-layer. It's pretty cool. More later, back to printing...
In the meantime, or even for really stubborn corner-curls, the other good solution is to model in some junk-cylinders at the corners of the model either super-close-but-not-touching or if you don't mind a little trimming, *just* intersecting with the real part. They act as anchors and help keep the part down, and in a pinch even act as fail-safes, so you end up with some slightly curled junk-parts but the real model stays tacked down.
That sounds like a good tactic. I found some 1/2" Kapton tape in my electronics tool case. Glad I remembered I had it because the tape on my print bed is toast. It's fine as now I have two pieces of taped glass that really speed up production. Here's the latest... I'm really excited with how this is coming along.
Nothing is glued/held together yet. Just positioned for scale. I'm even reprinting the bed because I have to rethink the side hinges.
Wow....had another idea since your the trailer guy, you should/could get a G1 Motormaster and use that as reference to make a classic version, that would be amazing
looks really neato man. You should make one for universal use for all the various voyager sized Prime toys out there.
Aw, sweet! Well, the main thing that sets this trailer apart from the others methinks is that part of the container in the front that sits over Prime's truck mode which you've seemed to get. I think it's a cooling system on usual trailers? But you've included it so, NICE WORK!
I never had Motormaster as a kid. I've been thinking about that character since I bought this black 1:32 scale tractor/trailer for my leader Optimus. Classics would be fun though and I'd be open to designing that if there was enough interest. Thanks! I'm not sure if that would work as a one Prime fits all, but I don't have any voyager Optimus figs. I have the super ginormous Hasbro 25th anniv. and movie leader. Thanks guys! I put in an order for more grey filament Friday and now I'm about to run out. I should get that order this week but I can't print much more until then. No worries I have plenty of sanding/finishing to work on. I got the wheel carriage assembled last night and it's pretty sweet. I'm going to re-print the wheels though with higher res. Designing for assembly with screws is really working out.
now that is awesome, BH it turned out really nice considering you just have it snapped together and not the final assembly cant wait to see this wrapped up
That's the one I really want. I really have to address my 6" build envelope as I know pieces I designed won't fit on that. But that's the same with this project. Thanks! Small update for tonight...
This is shaping up nicely. It's also great to see this medium expand. So much potential for artists such as yourself.
