As a Firefighter, I read this and cringed. Please be careful. Having an unattended heat source is a dangerous proposition. I would hate to loose a talented member (or any member for that matter) to a fire. Be safe buddy!
Yes, thank you. I've been very careful to monitor it. I did monitor it for at least a week before doing anything like that. The problem is prints can go for 4+ hours depending on size and printing resolution. At that rate I'd only get 2 or 3 prints in a day. I've also set it to disable the heating elements after each print completes. I also monitored that to make sure it was actually doing that. LOL thanks mate! I should have more updates tomorrow. I've been prototyping other prints that I can hopefully produce and sell faster. Non TF stuffs. Day job related.
Very cool seeing this in physical form at last. We should start some sort of 3D Printing Revolution collective or something
I swear to god as these printers get cheaper and more effective, they will be the 21st century equivalent of a moonshine still - "Hey man, you need that IP-infringing accessory? I got a buddy that can run it off for you real cheap. You aren't an IP lawyer, are you?"
Thanks! Yes I've printed in grey. I figured this would be the best base color for others. If someone didn't want to paint it, it's already grey. If they did want to paint, it's not some ghastly color that they need to cover. Thanks mate! That sounds like a fun idea. There have already been legal efforts to thwart 3D printing. The argument is no different than what the availability of CD writers in computers did. Could you now, easily make a copy of a CD you purchased and give to someone else? Yes. Should you? No. Although I would argue that accessories like we're doing aren't hurting. If anything they're helping. I've ready many comments here how users would look to purchase a figure they previously weren't going to because a mod/accessory is available third-party. We're also not mass-producing. Realistically, as cool as I think this trailer is I will be surprised if I sell a dozen. I don't think I've sold a dozen of anything in my Shapeways store either.
Sweet! Will this be a show accurate one as seen in 'Convoy' and 'Partners'? Or just a trailer in general
Well I've pulled screen grabs from both of those episodes with the intent to make it as screen accurate as possible, with limitations of scale and production. What in particular are you looking for? You can check out my thread in Fan Art too.
Slight update. Wound up re-printing parts as I found the printer bed needed to be re-leveled. Made parts thicker than they needed to be. I also reduced the plastic on needed on the print bed and tweaked printing speed. The longer half of the print bed originally took 9 hours, got it down to 3.5. I'm not happy with the detail on the wheel hub. Probably run that out again. Good news is the screws I got work and are awesome.
Awesome! Follow this very close! BTW: there will be started a lawsuit very soon cause 3D-Printing, cause some saftety issues and ID-Issues and this is the reason: The world’s first 3D-printed gun | ExtremeTech There are always some idiots on this planet...
Thanks! I've been reading about people doing this. Form 1 Labs has been sued not for gun/safety issues, but patent infringement.
Cylinders are just hard to print cleanly, especially at the scales usually used for TF related projects. Are you printing with raft/support material, the inside of the wheel well looks like it might have been supported. I've taken to completely redesigning all my parts so that they can be printed without rafts or supports, makes a huge difference, but it ends up being a quite the design challenge...
No I actually printed the wheel hubs with the inside face down so no support needed. I'm trying to resolve what's going on there. I too am modifying parts as I now print so they print effectively. Is it quite a challenge, but I'm up for it.
I'm trying out new printing software with new printing profiles to achieve better resolution in prints. The incomplete print on the left is with the new software. Clearly I'm getting the resolution that was intended now. I also made another change to print on glass which created some lifting around the corners. This is why I stopped the print. Off to Blue Store for some hair spray to stick prints to the glass.
Its amazing how much a change in slicing software can affect print quality. Hairspray helps a LOT, but if you aren't already, I'd suggest getting some kapton tape and covering your print bed with that (and then hit that with hairspray), ABS and Kapton like eachother, especually if you're using a heated build platform.
adds layers. Otherwise it'd just be a CNC (computer numerical Control) milling/router machine. Pretty awesome stuff.
