If there a screwhole you could mate a plate to plug in during alt mode. If you don't mind parts forming. Is that... OROGAMI CYCLONE?!?!
Nah, I think that would look silly too. The head has too many details and layers to be really effective, I'd have to paint the back of the head, the back of the antennas, the back of the crest etc. As it is, Prime is going to spend pretty much his whole existence in Robot mode, so I'm totally OK with having a random blue chunk visible in truck mode. It really doesn't bother me at all. Partsforming? Absolutely not!
if you bought any of those dollar tree ko primes back in the day, that riffle, which is a ko or robotmasters op's riffle fits perfectly. i painted one black and gave it to mine.
I hate to bump a somewhat old thread, but I have to know: what did you use to make the sliding legs? I've been working on my own Classics Prime mods, and that's the one thing that I'm stumped on. I tried Cybertron (Armada) Blurr, but the legs are too thick, and I don't really have any junkers, so unless I can find a way to make my own, I need to know what I'm looking for. Granted, at this point, I really do need another Classics Prime to address some of the issues I've come across making my custom, since I kinda dived in head-first, and there are a few things I'd like to change that are undoable, but I'll get to that once I can. Anyway, that's a gorgeous custom. I hope mine can look that good one day, although I'm not great at customising at all.
This is yet another proof text as to why "wip" threads are so useful. I agree with S-blood that the head needs some sort of back panel. I'd also like to see the rifle replaced. All of the changes are really great and the result is really stunning.
I've been trying to find a way to add a cover for the head, but I've had no luck (mainly because I've been working on the head, first). That said, I've had enough trouble just ball-jointing the head, and it looks like Jarrod got the right idea on how to do it. I didn't think about modifying the joint that was already there. Now I need a new Prime to try that, because I destroyed that piece. I think a panel should be fairly easy to put in place if you use the existing pin at the back of the torso (the one that normally has that stupid spring-loaded flap in place). It may be possible to modify the flap that's there by default, although I doubt it'd be as simple as just trimming it or something like that.
I whole heartedly agree,Superquad 7.This is how i came across Jarrods 1/24 Scale Jazz. That just blew me away! This is just as good with the mods he has done. The guy is a Model engineering genius!
i woulda bought this in a heartbeat if i saw it at the local TRU, lol. really amazing work... had this been a hasbro design, it'd be up there for best prime-mold nomination. again, just top notch all around.
What I didn't mention in the thread originally is that my computer crashed when I was working on this, and while I was able to recover most of my folders, whatever I had added the day and the day before it crashed was lost. And of course, most of the WIP pics of Prime were what was lost. For some reason, I still had a few on my camera, and that's what you see. Anyway, the sliding leg was actaully pretty easy, at least moreso than I thought it would be. I took my razor saw, and very carefully cut off a "block" that contained the knee hinge from the lower leg. Then I built up that block a little with some styrene to give it some reinforcement, and make it solid. I then hollowed out the leg a little more (it barely needed it really), and made a few guide rails with some styrene strips. The block relies on friction alone for sliding up and down, which is why there's some paint wear on the moving knee block. As for the head panel, like I've already said, building a better robot mode was really my focus, and making the truck mode better was just bonus. I pretty much really didn't care about the head beign visible, and am 100% happy with a giant blue block being there, given the rest of the truck mode is still only pretty decent. That being said.... ...these two ideas sound very do-able. And the picture above is a great example on how it could be done, and would be very effective.
This is one of the few times I wish I had a Citizen Kane emote with Orson Welles clapping... but this will do:
Have you done the actual modification, or just the diagram? I understand the diagram, but I'm unsure what sort of piece you'd be adding to pull that off. I'm presuming you'd want to scratch-build it (something I'm none too comfortable with at the moment - I managed to use epoxy putty to mould a small head and body, as well as some other simple things, but nothing with complex workings), and I have NO idea how to use styrene. I realise there's a tutorial about it, but styrene.... well, it's expensive here, and it's only available in strips, not sheets. I guess someone like HLJ might have some I could import for a cheaper price, though. Jarrod, I'd prefer to build the actual mechanism in there. I made a guide for the mechanism with epoxy putty, but I'm unsure what the best mechanism would be i.e. which figure to destroy. I still think it's a shame that Hasbro couldn't have engineered it better. It has so much potential, but ultimately..... Well, it just falls flat if you don't mod it.
Amazing work love it! I was going through old threads looking for ideas for my new prime I had one but my ex threw it away back to the drawing board
I love you for this particular mod. What a difference it makes. It's finally flush. I wasn't too sure about cutting away such a tiny piece. Honestly I look at it so many times and told myself I can't do it then I tried and cut myself. LOL So I decided to drill. Found it easier. A million thank yous.
