wow, that looks awesome, you have to work on the same size megatron after your done with this. keep this up, i'm tempted to try this if i ever find the time.
Ah well next up I may have a repaint of a big ironhide, or a human alliance Jazz, so he may have to wait down the time list. Ha! But i'll keep this up for sure, and hopefully it'll be enough inspiration to get to to make the time to do your own, it's hella fun!
Very good. Nice to see people working on the legends figures... they have so much potential for customization!
I love this little figure as is. But all of the improvements makes a good thing that much better. Nice work.
Yeah, i'm surprised how much i've grown to love this little figure. The only improvement that i'm stuck on is what to do with his wheel kibble, I don't think there's any options, so I may resign myself to the fact that they'll stay on his wrists. Thanks for the comment!
Update #2 - 19 october Here's the second update: I tested out some paints yesterday (I'm yet to buy an airbrush and compressor, so i'll be using spray cans for this one). I picked up: - Testors Chrome - for the thighs and hips piece - Tamiya Mica Red for the cab and other red parts - Tamiya semi-gloss clear for the final protective coat (but I think i'll exchange this for straight gloss) - Tamiya dark metallic blue (I didn't realise until I was actually spraying the test part that I accidentally grabbed the polycarbonate paint, ARGH!!!! I did some google searching and it seems like the poly spray CAN work on plastics, as long as you give it a good clear afterwards.) For testing the colours, I used some spare legends prime legs for the silver, some spare prime kre-o legs for the blue, and some cyberverse cliffjumper feet for the red. You can see that I tried two options for the mica red, one on straight red plastic (sanded first) and one on a foot that I had given a single coat of gloss black. I can't believe how much of a difference this produces?! I'm still not sure what colour i'll go for for the red on this fella. I like Xeltecon's MP-10 red that's almost a maroon, it gives a heavier feel. So the black base mica red might be where i'll go. Anyway, there ya go for now! Feedback or colour preference ideas are welcome! Jozaeh The pieces all painted with their 'before's (all except the red feet, they're the plastic vs black base optons) How the red options look in the sun. And how the red options look in shade.
looking good mate. I really like the darker red, but I fear it might be too "heavy" on such a small figure... Still, as others, I'm enjoying this process and every time I see what you've done I take another look at my legends OP sitting by my keyboard at work... lol
Ha ha! I'm glad some of you do! It's fun even for me to look back and see too, I swear I even forget what details i've done on a piece when it's all done. There's more tp come!
Yeah I'm still undecided hey. I do like the heavier look because it will help give a better convinving scale trickery of the little legends figure, but I might strike a middle ground with the candy apple red/maroon in the end. Thanks so much for the feedback. And i'm glad you're enjoying the process too! Well hopefully this will spur you on to mod your OP, it's hella fun. I'll need to embed a youtube video that everyone can start to play AS they flip through the final photos, and it'll be some epic game of thrones song or something to give my photos more impact. Ha! hey WolfVein, Yep! It's the prime cyberverse cliffjumper. He has so much articulation, which meant he got chopped up. I almost feel bad seeing him in pieces on my craft desk, ha!
UPDATE #3 - 22nd OCTOBER 2012 Ok! So the more I work on this little guy, the more details I realise I want to add, and the further the finish line moves away from me, argh! But here's a little update: - I've angle chopped the top of the smokestacks to match the MP, and i'll be dremelling in the little vent holes on them. I also drilled down into the smokestacks with my craft knife to make them look more real, and I sharpened the transition from the base of the smokestacks to the top parts, to give the join line more definition than it originally had. Oh gosh it's so finicky! - I've putty filled the rivet holes in the arms to make them dissapear when I paint them up. (This is the first time i've used plastic model putty (tamiya brand) and it works really well hey). This photo is the putty un-sanded. -These are 'spare' arms from a second legends Prime that i've cut the wheels from. In case I want to display him without the arm wheel kibble. This photo is the putty sanded. - lastly I've scraped back the rib section that will need to have red put on it, and i've done teeny craft knife details on the silver rib section to match the MP's details a little. Geez i'm wanting to paint this thing already, stupid meticulous patience to do it right forcing me to wait, argh! See yas, J
UPDATE #4 - 224th OCTOBER 2012 I did a little work last night and the colours are lookin good so far. - the red/maroon base with a couple coats of mica red is looking nice. I'm thinking I want it just that little bit more maroon. Which I may give with a slight wash of dark maroon on top. - I primed the legs, masked the 'fins' and the knee joint and tank - Then gave the legs multiple passes with royal blue (the last passes had just a few drops of chrome silver to give just a hint of metallic flicker. - and I dropped some yellow and blue onto the waist piece. It's gettng there! Till next time, see ya tf2005'ers! Jozaeh
