Ahhh it all depends where you live. I live in Australia and my local hobby shop JUST startes stocking it. Other than that ebay might have it, or a google search for 'alclad II chrome' might take you to some online suppliers you could get it from.

And my advice is to search youtube for tutorials on how to get the beat finish with the alclad, it helped me immensely. And it is SO much fun to paint with, it feels like with each pass you magically reveal the chrome as opposed to spray it on!

    Update Jan 2013!

After some deliberation, I decided to alclad the crotch, waist and thighs. The drybrushed tamiya chrome silver just looks to rough and well, obviously drybrushed on something of this scale.

So! I sanded back the crotch, waist and thighs and did the teeniest masking jobs i've ever done! Ha ha!

Then I airbrush sprayed them all with the gloss tamiya black:

Here's the crotch and thighs in the original drybrushed tamiya silver:

And here it is with the legs attached in the new alclad:

I think it turned out cool, and he's getting closer to be done!
    Thanks, Jozaeh

Are you using an airbrush for all the paint application?

Ha ha MegaPrime! Oh i'm glad you love it. It's so much fun, but even myself after I finish will forget just how much teeny work i'm putting in to this one. I'll look back at the thread in a year and go: "wait what?". Ha ha!

And you bet i've still got the masterpiece to paint. My airbrush and home made spray booth is all ready and waiting. But! I did finally get my first edition transformers prime Optimus in the mail, and that figure is a dream. So i'm tempted to paint that one first, so don't be dissapointed if you see that thread pop up first!

Hey Nyalahotep, You bet I am. I just bought myself a Veda 180 gravity fed airbrush and it's the first time painting that i've used an airbrush on the transformers. I usually use hand painting or a spray tamiya can when I want super smooth finishes. But I tell ya, the airbrush works WONDERS. And this one like alot of brushes, has manual real time paint distribution, so I can control how much paint sprays as I'm spraying (no need to stop and adjust the needle flow). It saves paint volume, and you can just mix and use your little paint tins paint for the gravity bowl.

Here's where I got mine from:

The best selling veda 180 bulk pack,

The finish it gives on even the tiniest elements and pieces still amazes me.

    Update jan 2013 #2

I decided that of all the parts that needed to be chromed, his smokestacks were THE bits that needed it! So I scraped back the drybrushed silver I had added, airbrushed them gloss black, then alclad.

I'll add a teensy bit of dark into the smokestack vent holes for some definition.

    Here's some shots for ya'll:

    Update Jan 2013 #4

So this legends prime's headlights are pretty spot on to match the peterbuilt truck. But I do like the cube-esque lights on the mp-10. I also have the problem of painting the front panels red and the lights silver, whilst not getting a paibt build up on the edges where the red meets the headlights edging. This tiny scale means even 3 spray coats of paint can be too noticeable in edge joins.

So! I decided to craft knife slice off the orignal headlights, and fashion some replacements to glue on after the red coat is done. And lucky for me, a spare palm panel of some hobby link mechanical hands, had two pieces that almost match the scale perfectly, bingo!

    The original front:

The hand, and the extra sacrifice palm, showing the resulted little headlights I found in the piece:

And here they are on the front in test positions before painting. I'm happy with em!

Ha ha! Oh your comment was funny, it made me chuckle. I know, no lying here!

And wait, maybe I described it weird, those articulated hands suit a voyager sized figure, they're not for thia legends prime (I WISH I could get some that fit him!), but rather the little double square pieces IN the palm of the hand scaled as headlights for the legends figure.

Thanks for the comment Sean, See ya!

    Thanks Bangman,

And it's a Hobby Link 1/100 mechanical hand, square version (there's a rounded version) that I bought from hobby link japan. I highly recommend them for swapping out on voyagers hey. They're a teensy bit tender when making finger shapes, but gosh it's worth it for super finger and knuckle articulation. And the 1/100 size hand suits MP-14 Red Alert (and sideswipe) perfectly! I want to give my red alert new full artico hands this week.

    Ta for the comment!
