This is awesome. Keep it coming. Any plans to improve the Meg's figure to stand next to Prime?

Hey Konra! Ahhh, I actually just bought the meg figure and hot damn it's cool! He looks fantastic. For now I'm just planning on painting the prime, but who knows, a reprolabels kit for mega and a little bit of paint might just happen.

    Update 7th november 2012

    Back again gang!
Here's some new updates for the little guy that I worked on tonight:

    - I needed to create a small piece for his middle waist yellow piece thingy (I have no idea what these even are?!). I cut a piece of generic model plastic from the hobby shop, then flat sanded it under my finger on some 1200 sand paper to get it down thin enough

    - next up I gave it some yellow, as well as giving the four outer areas more yellow.

    - ok then it was time for even more intricate yellow details! The again no idea what they are, forearm triangle and lines. I used my craft knife to cut the masking tape teeny, then a few passes with the brush with yellow. I'll be tidying these up before it's finished.

    - and I made some fun progress on the lower legs. The fuel tanks are silvered now, the shin fin thingies silvered as well, and a dark gunmetal for the top ball joint. I also added in the little silver and red tail light details on the toes. I'm really happy with these lower legs hey, they've come together rad so far (except the accidental turps covered thumb fingerprint I mistakenly pressed onto the heel of one lower leg the other night, aie!)

Getting closer! Ahhhh this is fun.

    UPDATE 9TH NOVEMBER 2012

Tonight I worked on the cab and shoulder windows, and the little kre-o blaster. For the cab windows, I wantes to go something darker, to simulate some dark tinting (I wish this little guy had clear windows, and believe me i've toyed with the idea of modding him further with clear plastic, but I have to draw the line somewhere brain!). Anyway, I went with an airbrush mixture of tamiya blue and gloss black. It's just that teensy bit off straight black.

I was really happy with the cleanliness the masking gave me for the spray. There's usually sneaky spray getting under the tape, but not this time, yesss!

The cab's windows should look good with the other details surrounding it, once I paint them in.

Next up is the kre-o optimus gun. Of course this gun doesn't fit the legends prime's hand, but the peg of my prime cliffjumper's battle hammer does! Bango!

I drilled it out, cut a ring from it, and it now slips over the kre-o gun's handle.

I gave it a fine sanding.

    Then some airbrushed gloss black.

Then I skipped some steps and instead of waiting until prime is all ready and battle damaging him all together, I had fun finishing the gun with blue, red, and silver highlights. I love it!

That's it for now, see ya!

awesome, so did you end up buying a airbrush? also, is that regular masking tape your using?

been thinking about buying an airbrush, but don't want to spend too much if i end up not using it

    Hey Mega!
Ah yes, I bit the bullet and bought myself an airbrush. And I can't tell you just HOW MUCH it makes a difference. If you're anything like me, and wanting the nicest finish possible to a paint, then you won't regret the airbrush. I wanted to get a high quality gravity feed airbrush, and a compressor, but that was going to cost me $280 ish australian total. For now I can't afford that, so instead I bought a cheaper simpler airbrush, most hobby shops would have them for around $25ish.

Here's a google image search to show you the similar style one I got:

You get two pots that syphen the paint up to the nozzle, and you can either connect it to a compressor, or to a can of compressed air. For this prime painting I just bought the compressed air for $19 a can. So all up I spent $45 ish, and it saved me having to buy $17 cans of tamiya spray paint, and it meant that I could spray ANY of the colours I already had in small tins. Win win!

Most noticeably the airbrush surpassed any kind of brush finish possible, in the silver trims on prime's arms. Chrome silver has the little metal flecks in it, that annoyingly follow brushtrokes, leaving swirls that catch the light and don't have a smooth finish. Even the can of model chrome silver testors I bought would come out too thick. The airbrush sending out a thinner mix (using turps to thin the paint down) of the chrome silver, in 3 thin coats, gave SUCH a smooth finish! I still can't believe it!

So my recommendation is until you can afford a better brush and compressor, it's worth the money to get a cheap brush for spray jobs. Just make sure to clean it afterwards to keep it in good shape!

And yes, that's just regular masking tape to mask it up. With some good hard finger pressing and rubbing to make sure it sticks well.

    Thanks for the comment!

Ah nice konrathink! I'm glad to hear it! I love the little gun too. In person the black and little details look so sweet.

Well I hope you enjoy the updates Godzilock!

Ah yes! Thanks kennum, I always end up calling my airbrush my brush, darn it!

Yep. A cheap airbrush for spray jobs until you get a nicer brush is worth it for sure.

and great! I can't wait to finish him up so I can show the finished product!
