Hm. I used to use my girlfriend's Dremel with no issues, but now I use my Mastercraft tool from Canadian Tire (basically a Dremel). It's got a few graduated speeds on it. I do find that sometimes if you don't take little breaks, the bit gums up with melted plastic and needs to be cleaned off, but I've never actually MELTED a figure before. Weird.

(okay, I did melt an RTS Tracks in a failed dye bath, but that's not the same thing! :p )

When I was referring to melting I ment more using the sander tool or cutoff wheel.

If I had a Dremel with variable speed I wouldnt mind drilling I'm just more comfortable with a drill or using one of those exacto hand drills I find I have more control. Like most things it's a personal preference thing.

Thanks for posting that shoulder review I've used these arms for several customs and doing that mod will be that extra umphto set proportions right.

The head looks great with all the details fleshed out as well

Oh yeah, those cutting discs are really destructive! I prefer a hand-saw in most instances, or just the old score-and-break method.

And I know what you mean. A lot of the time I don't bother with the Dremel. I often "drill" holes with my hobby knife for the same reason... way more control.

Personally I only use the cutoff wheel for large sections that I don't give a damn how it looks, then use sandpaper to finish off and smooth things out. Works a LOT easier. For smaller parts, yeah, xacto knife or a small grinding bit, but NOT a cutter.

The same can be said of your work my friend, your head sculpts blow me away with how clean & precise they are! :thumbs2:

You should try the articulated mouth thing sometime, its really not too hard & given your obviously killer set of skillz, I'm sure you could pull it off! :D

Any updates on this figure? I'm very curious to see how it turned out (or how it is going).

This is looking good! And I did not see it being based off spotlight: prowl coming! If the head sculpt didn't already look good, you're making his puny little rifle look more like the original toy! WELL done! Can't wait to see it finished!

    This is INCREDIBLE.

It could only be better if it was Roche's insta-Prick visage, where you see his face and immediately can tell he's a bastard. You've mimmicked the art PERFECTLY, and took a dull figure and made it outstanding.

Outstanding work! I love that head. I'm already a fan of this figure, and you've really improved it. Hard to believe the new head fits in car mode. Nice.

Thanks guys! I honestly almost forgot about old Prowl!

Thanks for the compliments on both the Head and the Gun! I felt his gun needed to be a bit more different than the other "twin's" guns just to separate him a bit more from them appearance-wise.

Wow! I'm glad you think he looks like that much of a sour-puss & that he mimics the art! Exactly what I was goin for!

Thanks TS! Coming from you my friend & the awesome stuff you do, that's quite a compliment!

Was the figure ever finished? I'd love to see the final result.

Ok guys, just a bit of an update since you guys were kind enough to remind me of 'ol Prowl. :thumb

First off, here's a better head shot showing the new eyes ( currently just made from sculptor's wax attached to a styrene setup inside the head):

& next up is a setup that I've been devising for some time based off the IDW artwork as a "waist add-on" to fill the gaps on the sides of his torso & his underarm area. Its currently just made from cardstock as a stand-in to help me get the dimensions I'll need plus the aesthetics i'm looking for. The plan is for the two "7" shaped side parts to be hinged in spots to fold backwards from a flattened out plane in alt mode on the underside of the car. The center, rectangular section will "snap" onto the existing section of torso. I may add in a "ratcheting" piece in the waist to give him a teeny bit more height too as the cardstock parts are currently too tall but I don't wanna alter their appearance if I don't have to!

Thanks for keeping up on Prowl gang! :rock

    Cheers!

The idea of a poseable head is awesome!
Any shots of him with his mouth open? Making his eyes swivelable?
    I adore this. =)
