TF: Prime Powerizer Megatron's Fusion Cannon
    Update Sept 17, 2012

What else can I say? This is the Fusion Cannon for Powerizer Megatron, made to be as size
and show accurate as possible! This set comes in 2 sections: The Fusion Cannon itself,
and the armoured forearm shield with flip out blade! These 2 sections are pegged into their
respective 5mm ports on Megatron's right forearm, and they peg into one another as well to
    maintain a sturdy hold.

The cannon is constructed to allow the installation of an LED circuit within its shell, yet
remain visually accurate, which is a stark difference from the large cannon on the
    stock figure.

Due to the design of the forearms, I could not emulate the slide out action of the infamous
wrist sword. I also didn't like how the original sword had to split into 2 halves, as they tend
to separate and they are not show accurate. My solution was to have the entire blade
'switchblade' to one side of the forearm, and I utilised an offset in the peg hole to allow the
folded blade to slide forwards, hence reducing the length that sticks out of the rear of the
forearm when it is in storage.

    [IMG] [IMG]

You can store the cannon in Megatron's alt mode, that's a given. With a little fiddling,
the forearm shield can be kept on his arm, but it will obstruct the placement of the purple
cannon mount. The cannon will be tipped forward and aiming right at Megatron's head.

What I like to do is to mount both cannon and shield on top of the ship.
Not show accurate, but I like how the extra piece blends in with the overall silhouette
as well as give an armoured appearance to the vessel.

    Assembly Instructions

To start off, set the top rear piece between the 2 main halves of the cannon. For those
who know what you are doing, the LED circuit will be installed in the shell of the cannon by now.
The top rear piece should sit on top of your circuit switch and it will act as a push button to light up the LED.

Use the bottom rear and front barrel pieces to lock the cannon halves together.

The rod-like peg piece is used to hold the blade in place within the forearm shield.
One end of the rod-piece has flat faces; this end should be pushed in first, downwards.
If you find that the rod cannot fit in, use an x-acto blade to scrape the sides of the
holes to remove material, then try again.

Finally, the forearm shield assembly is pegged into a 5mm port located on the front bottom
of the cannon. The whole assembly can then be mounted on Megatron's forearm. VoilĂ !

    Conclusion

This was sure a challenging project! It was obvious from the start that Megatron deserves
a much better weapon, but I took my time with it because I want it to be perfect. The main challenge
I faced was how to sit the pieces on the forearm and make them look natural on such an organic figure,
plus achieving show accuracy. The blade, too, took me some time to work out a solution I'm happy with.

I have since moved on to more ambitious projects, but I'm happy to say I can
look back on this one and be proud of it!

Comments and critique appreciated! Cheers everyone!

You can order the the Dark Energon version at
TFP Powerizer Megatron's Fusion Cannon (Dark Energon variant).

This model has been tested successfully in White Strong Flexible, and that material is highly recommended.

I LOVE this, very much well thought out and it shows, the blade hide-away is brilliant as well and doesnt add access kibble to megatrons arm.

That's an amazing set. I'm probably going to disassemble the stock set and rebuild it.

I would go with WSF or FUD on that design.
Pollishing will likely eat up the edge parts pretty badly.

    Hi ichnach,

Thanks for the compliment. WSFP will be slightly smoother, like velvet. But you might find the components to be looser due to material being removed in the polishing process.

As for FUD, I have no idea...It should work except for my wallet will kill me. LOL!

I may get one of the Dark Energon versions in Alumide.
    Hmmm?....
Careful, at that material's prices you may find that your 'Wallet' has been...

Tell me this, can the blade and shield portion be attached without the cannon? I've been looking for a good blade to make a gladiator Megatron.

It can be attached without the cannon.
That picture you reposted shows the front peg the forearm bracer/sword
attaches with. The cannon sits atop it in the front and pegs into the port
near the figures elbow with it's own 5mm peg.

I read his post as asking if it's possible to attach the shield separately from the sword. Otherwise, it's going to be like this:

Pretty sure he meant without the cannon:
I too "scan read" at times and make similar errors now and then.

Oh damn you Fakebusker. I go and spend a ton of time refashioning the regular cannon, and you go and make an even more awesome one the day after I post it.

*sigh* I'll go shut up so you can take my money.

This made me laugh. What also made me laugh is how much I wanted this, considering the fact that I DON'T EVEN HAVE A MEGATRON.
