RiD Voyager Bulkhead WIP by Zebu

Howdy,

It has been a long time folks…..
First, I would like to pay a respect to those with little ones at homes and still find the time to work on mods.
With my Ironhide MK III on hold until my little one is old enough for me to use airbrush; I’ve decided to work on some side projects.

First off is RiD Voyager Bulkhead.
With FE release, there was so much hate out there for this figure (initially me included).
However, upon further examination of the design behind this WONDERFUL figure, I saw a great potential for some TLC.. he he

So here we go,

WIP Part 1

Installed is pair of white LED and orange LED headlights.
These are connected by set of dual switch that can turn on each set separately or together.

Does it transform? Of course yes!

Was it hard to do? Here is the break down
a. Initial design study and planning = 6 hours (not sure really, but I spent about a week on transforming figure, measuring cavities, and coming up with circuit design).
b. Execution= 4 hours

So not too bad for 10 hours of work huh?

Here is the circuit layout (Sorry about the messy soldering work).
Everything fit under the hood (punt intended) with no major mod.
I had to shave off bit of grey part (bumper) to allow it to swing foward during transformation.
Also, I used resistor to dim the orange LED lights and ensure higher current flow to White LED when both switch are on.

Standby for WIP part 2 (more LEDs yeah!) and feel free to PM me for questions or leave comments here.

Thanks
Zebu.

That is awesome! And thanks for showing how you did it

EDIT:

Do you plan on putting a set of LEDs in the back? Is it possible?

Nice work.
Now put the swivel in the wings to place the wheels in the correct place and Bulky will really start to look nice.
Sort it, America!
Wanted: UK TF Comics, Issues 301 to 332.
I love Geoff Senior's work, deal with it.

So very cool. I guess the design of this figure isn't as horrible as I thought it was.

My pleasure, and yes I am planning on putting LEDs in the back, as well as his arms, chest, and possibly his head.....but we shall see....

Speaking of correct place....I have never seen the actual show so I wouldn't know where to begin, plus, I always try to do my own version of TF figures so it is unique..

Thanks, seriously though, I love how this figure has great hollow spaces to work with. It is basically an imploding box with arms and legs coming out of it.

Sweet! And nice work with the LEDs. Many thanks for showing how you did it, as I'm hoping to do something similar. LOVE the fact you put in two sets of lights. Really nice touch.
I also love TFs with nice large hollow areas to work electronics into. That's why I loved the TFanimated series. Prime is looking like it will have similar opportunities for lighting fun!

I'm only just starting to experiment with LEDs
and seeing this thread only refueled my LED-lust
