This is phenomenal.

Only concern is the trucks inherent front bumper; will it need to stay up in botmode?

This is just great. If it wasn't so tall, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Damn my self-conscious scale issues.
LOOKING FOR DESTRON SHOCKWAVE (TAKARA TIDAL WAVE).

Well, if you think of him as a companion piece for MP figures (especially the new line beginning with Takara's Sideswipe) he sounds like he'll be just the right size.

Oh, man... the ankles only tilt one direction? I hadn't noticed that. I guess I'm curious how the hips are going to attach... it looked like a full rotation would be possible, but of course the extra jointing would also drive the cost up, I guess.

zmog
yeah, shapeways will be a last resort. I love the detail you get but the detail is pretty pricey and very brittle. as for the hips. If you look at the two screws in inferno's butt. take those out and it frees up the legs. My add on will use the same screw holes...this is getting dirty.

Maybe you could design it to incorporate a ladder from some easily obtained toy... that way people would have the choice, but it would keep the overall kit cost lower. Or maybe I'm just being to conservative... ?

zmog
This is an interesting thought but I figure even if I find a firetruck at say $20 Then folks have to find/buy and maybe ship the product in. It might be just as cheap or at least more convenient to have one that comes with it. I'll think about it Z.

Definitely following this thread!

In terms of the kit and trying to find the best cost-benefit equation, feel free to drop me a PM, I might have a solution for you

It would give you a very wide range of articulation without sacrificing the look. Plus the hips would not have to hang down so low so that they have to clear the crotch armor.
I'm still figuring out how some of these parts are coming together and trying to keep in mind the piece count. I'm not sure what you mean about the hips hanging down low or clearing the crotch. sorry just wanted to be clear. thanks for the input.

I don't think so, You can put it down at 45 or 90 degrees. It might look silly though, I'm waiting on a couple parts and I'll have better pics of the standing bot mode for ya.

Shapeways will probably be my last resort. but if this pans out I'll try to make it as easy as possible to order.

Obviously I was thinking of a toy firetruck of considerably less than $20. I myself have a shoebox full of firetruck ladders and cranes from various thrift store toy truck purchases... so I'm thinking selfishly when I consider how much cost a big ladder would add to the kit, when I'm sure I'd have one already that would fit.

But that's just me. Of course it makes sense for a user-friendly upgrade kit like this to be all-inclusive with everything you need, and be easy enough for anyone to install. I think you're on the right track.

I'll take this one step at a time. however, if you want one without a ladder i think I know you well enough to figure something out bro.

I wish you'd sell the idea to a company so they could make in in the proper plastic.

I like what I see otherwise.
