I've never had any luck with it myself even thinning it but maybe it was the brand or something. I've had decent luck with Testors Model Master acrylics and some Citadel shades so I use it.

What tube brands are ok?

This is looking excellent. I think a quality paint job is all that is need needed for this to go from a so-so figure to top-notch.
