Bulkheads ball weapon thing is all well and groovy, but I thought it needed a little something... extra Battle Chain! He can even one-hand it and pull a bit of a "Lobo" It's even easy to do! All you need are a few of these: Lego chains, you get them with certain sets, but I bought a lot of them last year to make chain weapons for my Junkions, and had a few left over. For this project I used three, but you can do it with one, or as many as you want! Use a sharp blade to cut the last link in each chain, and remove the Lego attachment from all but one end, it's a simple job to reattach them into a longer chain, and are still very sturdy, but if you want to put a little dab of glue for extra strength it works. Take the ball and chain, and attach the Lego port to the peg-end (The other end also works, but I prefer how it looks here) And hey-presto BALL CHAIN! The chain threads through the hand hole easily, and it looks good in many poses Now, to build a nice-looking BIG GUN for him to hold.
That mode still works, this is just an extra bit, which I prefer because... why is it attached to him? It only increases his range a tiny bit... But that's just my opinion, and probably wrong!
I'm glad someone else uses lego chains with their figs. I thought I was the only one for the longest time. I may do this as a rough draft and then get some jewelers chain and mess it up a little just to have a more rusted/robust look to the custom weapon.
Lego chains are REALLY useful! I've not got to repainting yet, but I plan on dipping it into a nice browny orangey blacky wash to muss it up some more,
cool upgrade, makes him more like animated bulkhead, with a ranged weapon--is pretty cool. If only bulkhead were a military vehicle in this show, then i could buy it, but yeah, like someone said, i too prefer the ball in his hand--but this is effing great innvoation and looks awesome too
awsome idea i could realy see him swinging that around its funny you should say that cuase i was watching GiJoe renegades the other day and noticed that the trucks behind flints jeep/vamp look alot like bulk heads alt mode
Also, don't forget about the skull mace thing that the Ultra class Optimus Primal comes with. For the brief time I actually had one of these guys, I played around some existing weapons & found that one to be especially interesting, and had I been smart enough to pick up the Bulkhead I saw whose weapon had been stolen instead of leaving it at the store (this was before people were paying out the ass for them mind you), that's what it'd have in its place, probably with a custom chain because I never liked the string. ... and yeah, if lego chains aren't available, there's plenty of stuff in hardware, jewelery & craft shops, and don't be afraid to check out sewing sections of dollar stores & wal-mart. No promises of what you'll find, but you might get lucky.
I've tried jewelry type chains before, and the do work very well, but they don't feel as "Toyetic" as good ol' lego does!
