TF: Prime Voyager (FE) Optimus Prime upgrade set (Shapeways)
    Version 1.5
    Update April 14, 2012

    [IMG] [IMG]

I would like to present to you guys the upgrade set for TF: Prime (FE) Optimus Prime! In these
sets you will get a pair of replacement swords and smokestacks which are designed to be more
show accurate, as well as give you the opportunity of replacing the stock rubber sword and
    smokestacks.

You might ask: Ariel, I thought you said you don't do 'replications'. What's your reason for doing
this set? I'll answer that's right, I still don't do replications unless there is a good reason to do
so. My justification for this set is that I can't stand the floppiness of the stock blade (it came to
me bent out of the box) and I would like my Optimus to have a set of harder plastic blades.
Also, I'm able to take this opportunity to make the blades more accurate as well as give you
    guys a pair of them.

Apologies to those who have been waiting for me to show photos of the actual print.
I wasn't able to get them in until a few days ago.

In these photos you can see both versions of the blades. There is the fixed version on the left
arm, and the rotatable version on the right. You can also see the smokestacks already installed
on his back. The details on the blades are amazing. I can hardly see any print lines except on
the bladed areas of the sword, which can be easily removed with sandpaper. It's a pity FUD is
    so hard to photograph.

    Alt mode smokestacks.

For the original version of the smokestacks, I made a mistake and omitted the peg holes on the
inside of the pipes that are necessary for the smokestacks to fit into alt mode. It was a major
boo-boo on my part and I apologise. There are 2 ways you can solve this.
First is to try dremelling the peg holes which won't be easy on such a small piece.
The other way is to order the replacement from Shapeways which I'll provide
the link below. No I'm not earning any extra from those smokestacks, don't worry.

There's not much to say about installation, but if you ordered the set in FUD, the standard rules
apply. Don't apply too much pressure and never at the wrong angles. If it feels tough to push a
peg into the hole, carefully shave away some material from the peg and try again. I personally
had no issues with breakage so you guys should be alright.

And yes, the swords most likely will fit RID Prime. Not the smokestacks, though.

You can get the fixed sword set at:
TFP (FE) Optimus Prime upgrade set

For the rotating blade version, get it at:
TFP (FE) Optimus Prime upgrade set (rotating blade)

For just the smokestacks, get it at:

Comments, critique and happy conversations much welcome!

how do they look on RID Prime?

also, are you planning on making blaster similar to the FE ones? ones that will fit RID prime also?

I think the best way to attach the sword and gun to simulate the "morphing" is thus

I'm keen to get the swords and I'd definitely purchase a set of blasters!

Please oh please make an upgrade set for PRID Optimus. The weapons that come with it do not do it justice.

    ::Impatiently waiting for PRiDE shoots!::

So the same old question now.. FUD or WSF (polished)? I can see you did FUD, while its looks REALLY Detailed.. are you worried about durability?

When it comes to TFP: Optimus, the weapons for FE and RID are interchangeable
hand grip wise. RID Prime can hold both of FE Prime's weapons. No wrist swivel on
    the RID version though.

Hi guys, seems like the swords have been getting lots of love! Thank you all for your support!

What do you mean? As in, you mount the swords sideways to look more accurate?

I originally said I will not be doing the blasters, but it seems like there is an overwhelming demand for it. Let me mull over it a bit.

I'm afraid you are waiting for nothing, cuz I don't own a RID Prime. We just have to see if anyone else has one and would like to contribute some pictures!

As for durability, FUD is more than sufficient for static weapon models. Breakage for FUD is only a concern for small joints like on my mini bots. As long as you don't step on it or stab someone it should be alright.

Golly, I just saw photos of RID Prime and indeed he has no wrist swivel! Lame.
Goodness I got the FE when I had the chance.

    *hides bloody blade*
Yeah, don't stab anyone. These things are sharp and stabbing people would be bad. And wrong. Bad and wrong. Badong.

Has anyone tried the smokestacks on a PRID Optimus? My all of a sudden decided to just start curling to the left.

It's a real shame Shapeways doesn't offer a chromed version. I used Testors chrome spraypaint followed by a gloss coat on my FE Prime's stacks - didn't like the dull gray standing alongside the Masterpiece & others who are chromed out. Came out ok, but the stacks are more floppy from the process and the paint rubs off on the trucks detail nubs.

Any chance you'll be offering just replacement stacks? I like him sword-less anyway, next to my MP10 Prime...

Sweet thanks! Do you recommend any specific material as better for holding paint? As long as it's rigid I don't care what the original finish is...

For taking paint I'll say WSF, but since you said you wanna use chrome on it maybe you should use FUD as it is much smoother and easier to polish. WSF is too coarse for shiny paintjobs, no matter how much you sand it.
