I guess your only option then is to see if there is anything else you would want. Doing a larger order would help justify the cost for most people. You have my sympathy.
I just ordered these. I was really impressed with the DOTM Starscream weapons set (which is on my Thundercracker). Quick question, though: How are the weapons attached to the legs? If it's a set of notches, I wonder if they can be combined back-to-back to form a bomb of some sort.
The legs themselves have two pegs on them that is used to secure the hood together in car mode. The guns have slots on them that these pegs can use. Unfortunately they cannot combine together in any way I have found.
What would be the best material to buy these in? I ask because it would be my first Shapeways order and I want the best material possible.
Hi MLB, There is no 'best' material for Shapeways yet, but a library of materials with different properties that you'd have to choose based on your intended use. Strong Flexible is tough and flexible but with a powdery surface. Use it for items with joints and/or for play value. Strong Flexible Polished is the same material that has been put through a polishing process. It looks more velvet and finer details look washed out, but it looks good for objects with large plain surfaces. Frosted Ultra Detail is hard and shows fine detail really well, but it's brittle and expensive. Use it for static objects like weapons and accessories. Standard Detail is soft, shows details in a so-so way, but I'd prefer Strong Flexible anyhoo.
My 7yo son got Wheeljack for his birthday yesterday. He said he wished he came with blasters like on the show, and I mentioned these to him. He was thrilled! I told him I could probably get some next time I make a SW order
You are like the best dad ever, dad! Be sure to grab him a couple of scrapaci too! Happy belated birthday to H Jr.!
My set arrived today. The color matching is pretty spot-on, so I don't have to worry too much about painting. I decided to file down the handle of the grenade so that it can act as a combining joint, putting the guns together into one large shoulder cannon.
Well I still haven't painted mine yet but I can post some pictures. They are on my list of stuff to paint. I really like how they look in vehicle mode. EDIT: Sorry if the pictures are too big. My tablet really loves huge pictures.
awesome bits to complete a nearly awesome figure. Which material on SW would be better for paint apps? The stong flexible has that powerdy look that seems like it would create a more matte finish rather than metalic or glossy. Also can't find alumide listed as a choice...where did that go?
I have yet to buy anything in FUD but I assume all the plastics take paint just fine. My pictures above show off the guns in Black Strong Flexible. The Scrapplets are White Strong Flexible. The all versions of that material when painted will be porous. White Strong Flexible Polished doesn't seem to have that problem.
FB: Got a suggestion about the grenade... How about some sort of backpack that the grenade can be clipped on. That backpack can be use to cover the back part in car mode. In case people don't know where to store the grenade in vehicle mode. It's wedged between the thighs.
Looking sharp, mate. The latest version of the grenade actually had a way of being stored in car mode, near the back of the car so it could fill up the gap there. But what you did wedging it between the thighs work fine as well
There's a newer version? I did not see that. I assume that version 2.0 was just recently uploaded. *bummer*
