Small update in the first post... not done by any means, but school is finished now, so I can tinker with this stuff a bit more again. :)

Never saw this thread before, and I have to say that I really like what you're doing here.

The new configuration looks better that the previous attempt, and the Streaker arms are a big improvement. However, the Universe Ironhide head kind of makes him look like a pinhead, it's too small for that mold. Maybe you should try a modded Energon Inferno head, which IMO makes up for a hell of an Ironhide head and suits a voyager body very well.

    Keep up the good work!

    Thanks.

I don't mind the size of the Ironhide head at all... in fact, it was by far the best looking of an assortment of heads I tried... yes, including Energon Inferno, which is almost exactly the same size as this one. That head made for a good Ironhide back in 2006, but now it seems a bit lacking to me. The Classics Astrotrain head is a bit bigger, and I tried an Alt Skids head too, for a bit more bulk, but ultimately this one fit the style of the movie body best. Plus, it's almost an exact colour match, which is always nice. ;)

I still think the E. Inferno head is a bit bigger, but what you said in regards to the style is absolutely true. I didn't consider the fact that the Inferno head might look too simple detail-wise on a moviverse body.

I hope to see more of this project soon n_n!

I just scored a red Ironhide like yours in a local supermarket for dirt cheap. I think I am going to try out your mods. The only thing that I am missing is a Ironhide head. I need to find a replacement for one. Hmmmm....

But anyways, your mod rocks. :thumb

I'm just surprised at how well a deluxe head fit on a voyager body.

Is it just me or does he look a bit like Prime Ironhide?

Yeah, the Generations IH head has just enough extra surface detail to fit well with the movie body. The Energon head really is almost exactly the same size. The helmet is slightly larger, but the actual face in the helmet is actually much smaller, so it gives the effect of a smaller head.

Thanks. If I recall correctly these are the changes I made:
    - cut hinge that links the two front halves of the truck bonnet together. With them split, it allows the windshield to come forward like this
    - popped off the existing arms
    - cut the ball joints off the bumper. Currently the halves are just pegged in place, but I'll permanently attach them later.

The rest is just mis-transforming. It takes a bit of wrestling to get it into this configuration, but once you're there it works pretty well. The Sunstreaker arms just pop right onto the ball joints for the old arms (which are higher now, instead of attaching practically to his stomach). I tried Sideswipe arms, but for some reason they're a bit loose on the ball joints, while the Sunny arms are quite firm. Weird...

Well, when it comes down to it, this Ironhide mold really isn't all that big as far as Voyagers go. He's really only a head taller than most Deluxe cars... which works pretty well, scale-wise.

I suppose the alt-mode and transformation are pretty similar, so it makes sense. I think he looks a bit more like the Cyberverse version than the Deluxe (well, "Kup" anyway).

Just saw the PRIME Ironhide concept art. Quite a few similarities- which is a good thing. I'd like HAS make that figure (not in PRIME aesthetic) to replace my Generations Ironhide.

Yeah, it's pretty funny how the Prime design and this mod ended up looking pretty similar... though maybe not surprising considering they're both working with the same structures and ideas.

The Prime aesthetic is weird, with it's unholy blend of G1, Animated and Bayformers. Sometimes it means you get figures you can squeeze into a classics collection. Based on the clear official photos of the Deluxe Kup repaint of the Ironhide design, I think he'll be classics-friendly... except I'm worried he'll be really small. So far Prime figures have been pretty dainty for their price points.

I'm holding out a faint hope that Hasbro might give us a Voyager Prime Ratchet, but Deluxe is probably the best we'll get for Ironhide, since he's not supposed to actually appear on the show. This Ironhide mod is actually destined for a shelf with a bunch of "hybrid" G1 bots (G1 with a slight movie twist) that I've been working half-assed on since the first movie came out. :)

Sadly never completed. I was just going to put the head on a little arm so it flips into the truck bed for vehicle mode (not very well hidded, lol). I still have this unfinished in a shoebox somewhere. :/

I may or may not already have a cannon force ironhide at that point friend. I need it for a custom set of hybrid movie/g1 2007 autobot cast lol

That was almost the same as my project - to build a shelf of hybrid movie/G1 84-85 Autobots out of available movie toys! Maybe one day I'll finally complete that plan, haha

Anyway, good luck, and if you're still looking for an Ironhide later, I don't mind if you check back. No harm, no foul. :)

The problem with this build is that it's quite tall, and movie-style bots have been getting smaller and smaller, so it's harder to build a 1984-85 Ark crew that are the right heights in relation to each other (and with Optimus).

I really wish there was a version of the Studio Series / Bumblebee Optimus that was as tall as those 2007 Movie voyagers (like Ratchet, who is huuuuuuge by current standards).

Can you still do this arm mod even with the chest transformed like normal?
