So I recently bought Vortex, intending to turn him into Whirl. but mere moments of him arriving, I learned of Rotorstorm and things changed. Unable to decide between what to turn him into, I decided to work my Tomahawk into the mix as well, and ended up with both Whirl and Rotorstorm!

Simple partswap so far, still waiting for the Headrobot Drone set to finish Whirl, Gotta figure out how I want to do Rotorstorm's head too. So far this is what I've done, lemme know what ya think! (and I know there's a hand in some of the pictures, helped make Rotorstorm look more gray, less beige.

In bot and alt mode I tried to make them each look a bit different, like giving Rotorstorm his up shoulders, with Whirl taking the look he has in MTMTE, and I tried to make Whirl's alt lood a little edgier, popping the wings up and closing the tail piece. Makes him looks longer in alt mode too.

Still need to put on the Reprolabels, and do headswaps, and make the visor of Rotorstorm purple, and add the entire Whirl/Drone upgrade kit, but that's something I'll figure out later.

So yeah, there's my first "custom" so far, leave all sorts of comments-especially ideas on how to make Rotorstorm's head look right. All praise and constructive criticism welcomed with open arms!

if you can do some deeper parts swapping to put all the purple parts (hands, air intakes, cockpit, etc) onto tomahawk,

then your mainly grey figure can be your base for whirl,
and the black and purple figure can be a CHUG version of 2007 movie helicopter-bot, blackout.

(it is what i am planning to do)

and what is this news of rotorstorm?

    heh, thanks man.

While cool, I kinda like the look of them the way they are, the purple on Rotorstorm working nicely for my tastes, though this can always change-i had everything different the other day-i doubt when this is all done i'll be close to what i wanted to do originally, but i'll be just as happy.

Though waddya mean "News of Rotorstorm"?

i swapped the legs too. The black looks slick together, and even though the grays dont reeeally match, its not that bad unless you're looking for the difference.

though the swapped landing gears make me twitch lol.

Pretty cool, your Rotorstorm reminds me of the Energon version of Cyclonus more than Rotorstorm though.

I re-read your original post, and realized i had a dyslexia moment.
and got 2 of the sentences backwards.
so, ya, never mind that part, lol.

As for alternate heads, i have extra classics sideswipe heads (in dark blue, and black, as well as the classics style breakdown heads in dark blue, & red. & a black Sunstreaker head.

All of them are from a DIY sideswipe model kits.
if you want one, just let me know. all i ask is you cover the postage.

With difficulty is the answer, if you take the back of the head off and the light piping out you should be able to see two little tabs of yellow either side of the head, these are the visor, poke these out and the visor comes off, it's difficult to do though as they are re-enforced with glue.

Could alway get GIMP, which is free to use... or GIMPShop, which makes the UI a lot more like Photoshop if you've ever used that.

To go even further with the different look in bot mode you can transform the feet wrong on one of them. Simply put the small part (the heel) in front and the 2 pronged toes in back. Not my idea by the way but I've tried it and I think it looks pretty good.

The feet on the drone kit really ought to be available separately, they look to improve the mould tenfold without going through a complete leg transplant as I did.

A simple neutral background you can make is a white poster sheet. If you have a tabled backed up to a wall, tape the paper in a curved arc on the wall/table. Put the figure there, shoot to heart's content.

Using Photoshop... take a white balance "eye dropper" in a Levels filter, click the white board... and more often than not all white balance is taken care of quite nicely.

For example, see sig picture... looks like a proper light box shot... but nope... used the above mentioned tactic. (And a few minor tweaks on saturation, but not much at all really.)
