HA Bumblebee posable hands revision 2.0

    Update February 15, 2012

    Hi guys,

This sure is a complicated project, but it is finally done! In this model I wanted the
Bumblebee hands not only be fully posable, but work together with the right arm
cannon feature as well as requiring minimal modding. What do you know, I've
    succeeded! (albeit with some compromise)

Like all my other hand designs, these hands are doubly ball jointed, the thumbs and
wrists are ball jointed, and Bumblebee can now hold onto 5mm peg weapon
    accessories.

There is no real way to hide his right hand when the cannon is armed.
I guess you have to position it so that it doesn't look like a hand.
Thankfully there are a whole bunch of ball joints there to make it easy.

    [IMG] [IMG]

They fit in his alt mode as well. I was pleasantly surprised at that.
You might want to dremel off a part of his passenger seat back, but I found that unneccessary. Mine fits alright.

    [IMG] [IMG]

You can purchase the hands here at
HA Bumblebee posable hands on Shapeways.

    Assembly Instructions

Alright, the assembly process requires you to know exactly which part you are
handling at the moment, so pay attention. The good thing is you will not need any tool
    but a simple screwdriver.

Start off by removing the 'right wrist' parts from the sprue. Note which ones are
    labelled 'A', 'B', 'C'.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Take 'A' and 'B'. You will see that there is a gap as highlighted in the first picture for
'A'. This is to allow you to flex 'A' slightly open to allow the 2 rod ends of 'B' to go in
(second picture). Press the rings of 'A' together to lock 'B' in place within 'A'. Now 'B'
should be able to hinge freely.

Now slide the 'AB' assembly into the corresponding holes of 'C'. Already you can see where this is going.

Unscrew the right forearm and remove that dark grey piece. Replace it with the 'ABC' assembly
and put the screw back in.

Unscrew the left forearm, remove the hand and replace it with the left wrist ball joint.

Now with the remainder of the pieces, assemble the hands. Attach them to the
    forearms and you are done!

    Issues

Now earlier in this post I mentioned that I have to accommodate some compromises.
Basically I had to take out the option of printing in Detail and Ultra Detail because of the
way the wrists have to be assembled. There is too much risk flexing the pieces and
    breaking them.

But, as it seems like hardly anyone orders the hands in Detail anyway,
    I guess we are dandy.

All comments, critique, problems faced please reply to this thread! Love you guys!
Now take your little muscley yellow scout and go brutally robo-murder someone!

    Regards,
    Ariel

    HOLY SMOKES THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!
Do they fit ok in vehicle mode?
I'm thinking maybe for the cannon hand, it could just be popped off at the ball joint if someone really wants to hide it...

OH! I forgot about that. Vehicle mode pics added :3

Agreed about the pop-off-right-hand idea, but for me it's no parts-forming, remember? ;)

maybe its the fact that they are not painted to match but they look a little big or is it just me?

but they do look fantastic design wise and non parts forming is a super plus

always been a fan of your work

I wouldn't remember my name if it wasn't on my driver's license :)
Once they're painted the hand will probably look nice and natural folded up to the side. Nice work!!!

It also could be that they're closer to the camera in all the pics...

:rock  Awesome!! I have been looking soooooooo forward to these!! Can't wait to get my set, placing my first shapeways order tonight! They turned out great, and that trick right wrist hinge is a marvel of engineering in and of itself.
@ Meg31, I think it is the white that makes them look big, especially on the right with the new wrist piece. They may be marginally bigger, but not that much bigger or I don't think they would fit in alt mode.
Just for grins, FB83, could you snap a pic of the new hand next to the stock hand?

Well...where I am, and from what I remember from Walmart a few months ago, HA BBs are shelfwarming by the hordes. Hopefully you can get some from clearance sales.

    Who's batman??

I hope so. I'm just waiting for some kind soul to paint a pair and share pictures.... :3

Woot! Woot! Finally huh? Sorry for the wait!

Indeed, I did make them slightly bigger than the original, as I thought the latter is too slender and stabby:

My impression of Bee is that he is quite the bruiser, and he needs his hands to match. Besides, to me that just looks right.

Thanks for posting that pic, I knew they were not as much bigger as the white made them seem (hope that makes sense). Mine sb here within a couple weeks & I'll get them painted up & put on my custom bee & post some pics, these will be the ultimate finishing touch!

Finally got mine, I'll post pics when I get them painted. Ariel, the right hand engineering is really clever. Great job on that!

These would probably work on the DOTM leader version too I am thinking. The HA hands are about the same size, and since these are a little bigger...

    Another fine job Ariel.
