I wanted to make my own custom TF Character for awhile. But picking the mold was hard. I really liked the Nitro Bumblebee mold, it looked cool in both modes, and the boosters really appealed to me. Also I liked the blasters built into the arms without the cost of losing his hands, despite them not being able to hold a weapon. This was the first repaint, I wanted to use green, but found it was too dark against the blacker potions of the mold. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a333/GrungeKnight/Grasshopper/Grasshopper001.jpg SO! I used some Steel Gray, and I felt it took away from the green some but I'm overall pleased with how it turned out. Though I do wish it came with a better weapon, but i can fix that later on. This is my first time repainting. So be gentle. EDIT: Below are pics featuring Grasshopper done with acrylic paint, which wasnt very good for plastic, left links rather than embed. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a333/GrungeKnight/Grasshopper/Grasshopper007.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a333/GrungeKnight/Grasshopper/Grasshopper006.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a333/GrungeKnight/Grasshopper/Grasshopper005.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a333/GrungeKnight/Grasshopper/Grasshopper004.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a333/GrungeKnight/Grasshopper/Grasshopper003.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a333/GrungeKnight/Grasshopper/Grasshopper002.jpg bought some testers paint this is latest paint job! EDIT:more pics added 3/12/12 the deatiling on the arms is probably my favorite.
Interesting. I'd do a head swap on it. Just looks like a green bumblebee. Nice though. Can't wait to see clearer pics.
I rather like this. Painting a green Bee and naming him Grasshopper tickles me in a very satisfying way. Your name gets an A+ man. The paint job looks solid too. I like the gray bumper that becomes his gray chest. It's a very cool thing that I'm digging it. We need to see better pictures though. Next time delay a day until you can get the good pictures. I did the same thing so I know how strong the temptation is to post with blurry pictures. But I should give you some more "I did that too" advice. I see the paint you used in the background. That isn't good paint for figures. I haven't had any luck at all keeping it from scraping off so expect yellow to pop up where ever you have two pieces even look at each other. Tamiya paint has been recommended to me and my Thuggers seem to be better. But yeah man. You did cool. I'll take a look at your higher rez pictures when you post them.
Well, that's the thing, I liked the head too! Just wish the horns came out more, so it would have a more "Mercury" or "Icarus" look. I even did the eyes too which was harder than I thought! Tamiya? Where might I purchase that? becuase hobby places are rare near me. However, I supose this is what google is for! It was a gloomy day when I did it last week and the lighting in my room is bad to begin with. AS FOR THE NAME! Grasshopper come from my nickname at work, and I selected BB becuase he's typically a smaller bot, and I'm a bit on the shorter side. So I HAD to use a smaller bot. My favorite color is green so it all panned out. Though when i was done I was worried it was going to look like a Movieverse Tap-out. So? Tamiya doesn'tscrap easily?
Tamiya still scrapes. As for where to find it I can't help there. I found it at a local hobby shop though it was in short supply at the time. But people described the Folk Art paint that we both used as paint extremely ill suited for this kind of job. I'll defer to their experience but haven't done enough to know how differently it performs. I will be painting a Prime Wheeljack soon-ish so perhaps that will shed some light on it. But I trust their word and the word of the tutorials and guides.
Yeah, I saw in the cool stuff thread. Ha I'm thinking of doing a Classics-verse soon, since I did a Movie-verse 1. But, gotta redo the current before I can start on next.
Good start to this hobby. I realy like Tamiya paints, they brush on well, most hobby stores carry them or you can get it online,
Yeah! The silver really pops alot more than steel gray does! I wanna do some pics to capture all the painted sections I added to him. But so much I gotta get situated on this machine first.
