Wait a minute... I've been painting my Optimus Prime trailer silver for WEEKS and it's still not done. I could have saved all that paint, LOL...

Glad I can contribute something to the forums.

I did considering buying chrome foil online but shipping was almost the cost of one sheet. I'm fortunate enough to still have some hobby shops in the surrounding cities. I have heard about some people using HVAC duct foil

if you don't have a hobby store nearby you could try that, but it is a bit thicker than the modeling stuff.

If you do plan on buying online do stock up a bit on sheets to save on shipping cost.

also heard this stuff is really good especially if its going to cost $31 bucks. geeze.
Buy Hobby Material - GSR Chrome Master, Order Now!

for the price I stick to Bare Metal. I do want to try testors, but not going to pay $16 shipped for it.

Noob question: Can this be painted? How about regular chrome, can that be painted?

did you mean after you apply the foil can you paint on it? If so I believe you can cause I have read about some modelers applying the foiling and then painting on the finer details. I personally have not tried but have read about some that fave.

Now if you're asking about painting on chrome then I'm pretty sure you can. I choose foil for the sake that I can take it off without harming my figure.

Might wanna attach a few of the images onto the page though. If you edit the post there's a link for "Manage Attachments." In the pop-up window, you can put the url for the pics to upload copies to TFW, and use for this post.
I tried editing the post and was only able to put up pictures on the post. I didn't see the "manage attachments" you mentioned. How do I upload pictures to the thumbnail so they see it before they enter the thread?

You can't. Adding attachments is currently down: TFW2005 - The 2005 Boards - Announcements in Forum : Radicons Customs

Nice guide! And nice job applying the chrome. Due to the reflective nature of it, it's hard for photos to show how well you've applied it or just how shiny it is, but I can still tell how well you've done and I know this stuff can work.

Years ago, I bought some of this stuff, experimented and agonizingly "restored" some G1 parts with worn chrome. Prime's smokestacks worked really well. His grill was a tremendous pain with all of the vent detail.

Naturally, G1 reissues started happening approximately one second after I finished, which was nice way to tell me how much time I had wasted.

I did learn that this stuff can be really cool if you don't get too crazy with your idea. I tried half of Grimlock's tail and it looked fantastic. Something like G1 Prime's legs didn't work out all that well since the transformation tears the foil, of course.

Now, improving modern toys seems really great for this stuff! Particularly you "insecticon" who demands to be glorious. I've still got some and I may give it a shot on some deluxes. I'd considered Jazz's feet and rims, but that seemed a bit complicated. Blades weapons, on the other hand, are a great idea that I was too dumb to consider until now. Advice for anyone looking to spice up some Prime toys, I don't think this stuff will work well at all on rubbery weapons.

Has anyone tried applying Future Finish to this foil for durability? I tried burshing on a clear coat of paint once and the results were not pretty.
