This should have been posted in his main thread then - http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-fan-art/384034-fakebuskers-shapeways-thread-23.html
Thank you all for showing so much love, guys. It's true I'm really proud of how this guy turned out especially on the first test print. The Thugger work process was a nightmare with all the false-starts but it seems like I finally learnt something about this whole design thing. Your support and comments keeps me going everyday! noizemaze is right, in a way...I mentioned this in my Thugger thread some time ago, that the main reason I built these is to be add-ons to WFC Soundwave. Without that Soundwave figure as a 'base' the Thugger and Purrdator will be standalone figures. There are already G1 Cassette figures and the PE versions available (also, universe Ravage), so making my own versions at that scale will just flood the market needlessly. Who wants to pay extra for 3D printing when you have alternatives anyway? Again, thanks for all the comments guys. I feel encouraged to move on to working on my robo bird!
Robobird is who I am most eager to see. Any ETA on him? If he's eminent I'll wait and order him, some Purrdators, and some more Thuggers all at once.
Sorry for picture overload, but I got the itty bitty kitty committee going on; Video Review coming soon......
can you throw a coat of get (or any color really) so we can see it more clearly? the white is tought to make out...against the white background. concept looks sweet though.
These are both going to get a full paint treatment in the coming weeks. One will be a traditional Ravage and the other a nice waving SG Ravage
that is really f-ing cool. I don't pay WFC Soundwave much attention these days but I feel compelled to buy these and dust Soundwave off.
I want to get this as soon as my soundwave comes in. Amazing work. One thing i dont understand though, maybe b/c i'm new to this shapeways things. Why is everyone ordering him in white and clear? I see an option for Black and flexible for the same price...Seems like a given for ravage. Is there something i'm unaware of? Is the colored plastic more brittle or something? Also whats the difference between the flexible and detailed? any advantages to either?
Well, I assume everyone is getting white flexible because they want to paint it for themselves. It's cheaper and almost everyone has black on their colour palettes. There's no difference in quality between WSF and BSF other than price. For Detailed, the material is much softer, and you run the risk of breaking the joint sockets or having loose joints. I never recommend Detail materials now. Frosted Ultra Detail though is hard and strong, but brittle and joints might snap.
With this particular model my experience is that the only major weakness was on the universal weapon plug points. This model had a lot more strength in the FUD material then the Thuggers did, imho and of course your mileage may vary. After having this model I actually kinda wish there was an option for just peg and hole connections on the weapons for folks that like working in the FUD materiel. I think they would hold up better in that material.
Video Review for Purrdator(s) in both FUD and WSF materials is live. Check it out if you are on the fence about these guys. Radicon Spotlight: Shapeways Purrdator (WFC Ravage) by Ariel Lemon - YouTube
I just built my Purrdator, and BOY, is this thing sweet! There's already a lot of pictures of this in the thread. Trust me, this thing is gorgeous. I printed it using Frosted Ultra Detail. I won't bother with any other material in the future, the details will be lost (there's a lot of incredible details you won't want to miss), and the step-y/grainy feel of the other materials affects the fit of the pieces. I printed Thugger with the White, Strong & Flexible, Polished. So much of the detail is lost, and the figure looks gummy. I printed Sqwawk/Beak/Saw (not a Ariel Lemon design) in Black Strong & Flexible...that was a complete waste of money. The design was good, the material I choose made it worthless. The graininess made fitting awful, and the details were completely lost. It's a bit more expensive, but worth it. It is more brittle though (I could really tell when I was snipping Purrdator off the sprue, felt like it was being snapped off instead of cut off). Just be more careful.
