    Hi guys,

I'm happy to finally release to you a pair of posable hand designs for DOTM Leader class Ironhide! Shown here all gloriously painted, assembled and installed by my homie Metallitron!

As Metallitron can attest, I've refined this design to a good level. It's as movie accurate as I can make it while still incorporating great posability and the ability to hold 5mm mechtech weapons.

Each finger is double-jointed, the wrists and thumbs are also ball-jointed, and the hands still fit behind the windscreen in his alt mode! Note that these images above are version 1.0, but the one Metallitron has is the latest 2.0 version with improved proportions and reliability!

In alt mode, you would want to keep his fingers flayed out on the dashboard, as folding his fingers could obstruct parts of the transformation.

    Installation

So I know there's a lot of debate on the boards on how to affix IH hands to the forearms. Unfortunately for the detractors, I've found a perfect solution for this problem! (Fooled you all, didn't I?) :lol
    Here are the installation instructions:

    #1
    [IMG]
Saw off the stock fists straight across the wrists, but be careful not to cut into the forearm. You want to keep that forearm wall just above the hands.

    #2
    [IMG]
Sand down the forearm wall until it is flat and clean.

    #3
    [IMG]
Dremel a rectangular hole 4mm high, 7mm wide.

Observe the internal view to see how the hole is positioned in relation to the forearm structure. Note that you would want the hole as 'low' as possible, and as deep as possible until it is flush with the far wall.

    #4
    [IMG]
Dremel a second gap directly behind the wall as shown in the picture. Let the gap be 3mm wide.

    #5
    [IMG]
In the end the holes and gaps should look something like in the photo.

Trim and adjust to fit as you want the wrist piece to fit into the gaps snugly and not wriggle around. The wrist piece is designed to fit into the slot neatly with the tail end acting as a hook for extra security.

    #6
    [IMG]
Do the same for the other arm. Also, assemble the hands and plug them onto the wrist joints. Voila! You're done!

As always, I'm open to comments, suggestions and feedback. Metallitron and me have tested these hands and they are good, but do let me know of any problems you might face. And yes, these hands are not for casual collectors. I've designed them to be installed as easily as possible, but you do need a dremel or equivalent tool, and skill to use it. The good thing is, no epoxy sculpt or sticky glue needed!

    Sincerely,
    Ariel

since i am not the greatest with this type of stuff, i may just cut his hands off like instructed and trim down the ball joint base and just glue it on to where the hand would be and put the hand on.

since i always display in bot mode only having it glued on with still let me move the hands if need be for poseability.

    Thanks hank!

    Sorry for the wait!

Glad to be of service! I'll pm you right away...

Well, if you're going to do it like that, unless you are using extremely strong glue I doubt the joint is going to hold even for regular posing, as the glued surface area will be very small.

At least try to cut out the rectangular hole at the wrist so you can insert the wrist piece. You don't have to do the internal 3mm notch if you don't wish to, just slice off the 'hook' of the shapeways wrist piece. Use glue on the inside of the forearm to attach the wrist piece and it should still work.

Damn this solution is perfect! Now I'm in a conflict, Z did cast hands for my ironhide, and they are on their way to me ATM. So I think I'll don't (!) order these Hans from shapeways, cause it wouldn't be fair from me, hopeyoull understand. Also I think your hands wouldn't work for me anymore cause my magnetic mount of the sentinel hands

Again, it is a big honor that I met you here on tfw, this was the very best what could happen for us here! You're so damn friendly, helpful and cooperative that it hurts (in a positive way)!

I send you all my greetings, god bless you my friend!

it s perfect. but it s more complicated than it was. truth is, not for casual customs, but great piece for high levels.

last thing is, as wht Shapeways charge shipping fee now, i dun feel it s fair for me to order this. all i just can do is look around here & best wishes.

Holy poop. That's about 50 million times better than any design I could have come up with. I've been waiting for these so that I could order new hands for Optimus, Sentinel, Ironhide, and Starscream all at once, and the wait has definitely been worth it.

Your comments are much appreciated, guys! I think greater credit should be given to Metallitron for getting my lazy ass on this project in the first place!

Dude, did you ever take pictures of the alt mode too? I've tested mine and they work but snug. I was wondering how do they fare on yours.

Great pictures man! Every new custom of yours is jaw dropping.

Always a pleasure, Lime! It's alright man, Zildjian's hands are also of high quality and every pair is made with love. I'm sure they'll work out for you!

    Zildjian hasn't replied my pm yet :( :( :(
    Maybe his inbox is full

Yes, I was meaning to ask you guys about this. How feel you guys about the delivery charge? I mean (duh.) higher prices are always unwelcome, but I just want to know how can I best alter my services to circumvent this problem and get the designs you guys want to you in the best way possible.

There have been ideas like buying in bulk and stuff or sprueing multiple designs together, but each has its own pros and cons.

I'm in the US now, but I'm returning to Asia in a couple of weeks and I hate the thought of coughing up $20 per order.
