Fakebusker's Shapeways Store Update (13th Sept, 2011): Sentinel Prime's premium posable hands are out! Fantastic ad courtesy of the awesome buddy Metallitron! Shapeways link is here: DOTM leader class Sentinel Prime posable hands (premium) . . . DOTM Leader Sentinel Prime posable hands Revision 2.0 Update July 7, 2011 Yup, here's my first offering for upgrading your DOTM figures! There has been many awesome customs of Sentinel Prime lately, and you'll only need a couple of expressive, posable fists to make them complete! Each hand is articulated at the wrist with a ball joint. The fingers each are double jointed, and even the thumbs are on ball joints. The leader's hands are big enough for me to design it such that it can hold weapons without relying on the tension of the finger joints, so you can pose them in many different ways, with many different weapons. The test sample is printed in White Strong Flexible, and the finger, wrist joints are pretty tight. So tight that I didn't need to use super glue for reinforcement. Transformation is very much possible, I made sure of that (yay!). Just make sure the fingers are arranged properly, kinda similar to how the original fingers were. Issues The test sample has a loose wrist joint where it connects to the forearm. I have tightened it on the latest update so it should work. If not, use super glue to tighten the joint. The hands hold most 5mm weapons fine, but for weapons which need to be pushed into the palm (specifically Sentinel Prime's sword) it was too tight. I've fixed the issue in the update as well, but be wary and try not to force it too hard. The WSF material was strong enough to withstand the stress of repeated pushings though, so don't worry too much about breakage. As the joints are all designed to be sturdy and the pieces are kinda chunky, I will not recommend ordering them in Detail material or Frosted Ultra Detail material as they will most likely break under that pressure. However, I still will make these materials available for those who are picky about their surface detail. Buyer beware! You can purchase the hands here at DOTM Leader Sentinel Prime posable hands. Assembly Instructions Simple. Piece together everything until they look like hands. Remember, each finger is made of 2 pieces, and the thumb is one piece by itself. Do not use too much pressure. If a ball joint seems like it's not going in, scrape slightly against the sides of the ball socket to enlarge it, or check that the ball is completely round. Remove the 2 screws in the forearm, replace the old hand with the assembled new one. Done! Comments, critiques and feedback on problems faced will be very much appreciated! I like those.I don't have a SP toy to get an idea of the size. How are they compared to Unicorns hands?
Man you do some amazing work with shapeways... Keep up the good work... Do you think these would work in leader ironhide???
Thx for designing them and a secret for me And I'm glad to say that this here never happens without my influence and money :-D I'm feeling proud that you did this for me and all others here
Wow, really nice work. I was waiting to get the Leader Starscream hands until I had something else to flesh out a decent order, so these will work. Any chance on a version 3 with the spike knuckles?
I think new ironhide hands are possible, they could be added like sentinels, but you have to cut the existing hands and you had to drill out a carve for fitting the hands, very dangerous for the figure and a pain in the ass do to and to create I think
In order to do this for Ironhide you would have to remove the existing Mechtech weapons in the forearms. The weapons sit flush against the back of the hands in the forearm allowing no room to install a ball joint or circle joint.
Maybe the joint could glued on the cutted part of the original hands? Will look on Saturday, I'm sure there I a way to realize that
