Just got Sentinel's hands, and they look awesome. Good work.

    Two questions:

    1) The surface of mine is kind of rough/uneven and not at all like plastic. Is that intentional? I got the Optimus Prime UFO hands and the plastic is just like the rest of the figure.

    2) All the joints are very loose so he can't even hold his weapons without his wrists bending. Any way to mend this, please?

    Hi Gargamel,

These hands are plastic, made of nylon powder, but they are 3D printed in a laser sintering process. In contrast, the UFO hands are injection molded ABS so they benefit from having a smoother finish.

If your hands are suffering from loose joints, you can carefully coat the joints surfaces with a light layer of nail polish or superglue. This bonds the top layer of powder together and gives grip to the joints. Be careful not to over do it lest the hands don't fit.

    Best regards,
    Ariel

Remember, I'm an idiot as regards to customs :)

How do I apply superglue or nail polish without ruining the hands?

I recommend Future floor polish instead. You shouldn't have to worry about the parts getting sealed like they would with superglue or nail polish.

Is the new metallic polished plastic (grey) closer to a finished plastic version such as, for instance, UFO?

    Hi Gargamel,

Hardly. From what I remember, metallic polished plastic is even looser than white strong flexible, and probably will result in horrid finger joints. It might have smoother surfaces, at the cost of lost of detail due to the polishing.

Metallic plastic is really only good for larger models where fine detail and tolerances are not an issue.

Too bad. I thought mine (the nylon powder ones) look really cool but I don't care too much for the uneven cement like surface and the fact that I need to apply glue (I probably can't make it look half decent).

Am considering putting the retail hands back on, which is a shame.

I just assembled the hands and dabbed tamiya acrylic silver grey paint all over the model and it turned out fine..
