As long as you don't go over, then you should be fine. If you don't want to shave it, you can sand it down a bit.

So I got my Prime hands in the mail yesterday. Gotta say I am impressed. I have never attempted to paint anything like this before. Any suggestions? Is primer ok to use? Then acrylics, right? Thanks in advance.

spray paint with extremely light coats but i would consider painting while the hand is assembled so you can work the joints between coats

im talking 7 light coats almost like just dusting it

Well, I have never used any primer on my Shapeways stuff, I just go right on with my paints. The Strong Flexible stuff (assuming that's what you ordered them in) is super absorbent that normal, day to day posing will not cause any paint rub even on the tightest joints. You don't even need to do any messy dyeing, in my experience.

I use lacquer paints, but modelling acrylics should work.

Ok, cool. Awesome. I ordered strong-white-flexible-polished. Should I assmble then paint? Thanks again FB, I need to grow a pair and order your Starscream and Sentinel hands. I also got a Jazz rifle too, pretty sweet.

FB, do you paint them first before putting them together or after?

I do it slightly differently from dkreed7, but in the end my method might be more tedious but I dunno...I snip everything apart and trim the sprues/flash etc, then I paint the ball joints and superglue them first before assembling into sub-pieces like individual fingers, etc. Then I paint everything else.

No no...hot water is for materials like Detail and Ultra Detail. The nylon based Strong Flexibles are flexible enough you don't need to soften them. Same for Polished.

    Hope this helps!

Sometimes, because of the powdery surface of Strong Flexible, ball joint surfaces ground themselves loose gradually because the powder falls out. A light coat of super glue holds the powder in place so the joints remain tight.

Larger joints (like the wrist joints) are less susceptible because the joint walls are thicker and studier, but smaller joints are a cause of concern.

Got my hands about a week ago. Ordered in Strong White Flexible. Here they are painted - (click pictures to embiggen)

They can still hold the Buster rifle correctly as well as the 5mm peg weapons.

Oh, and here's how to position the hands for transformation -

Awesome guys! I really appreciate the sense of community in this thread. No smartasses and it's just dudes helping each other out. Again thanks to FakeBusker83 and LimeWire for this awesome project. Oh and one more thing, is clear nail polish ok to use instead of super glue? Thanks! :thumb
