Looks fantastic! Any chance these will be released at the same time as the bird? I'm waiting for the bird before I place a very big Shapeways order of mostly your stuff so I would add a few if they are available.
All the credit to you, sir. All the credit to you. Thanks again for bringing it up. I sure had a lot of fun working on it
Fakebusker's Shapeways Store Slammers and Drillers for Thugger 4.0 Update Jan 22, 2011 You might have seen the old version here and wondered where had the Shapeways entry gone. Well, I took it down in preparation for these updated versions adapted for Thugger 4.0! These latest versions are designed to be extra customisable. You can connect every single piece to any of the compatible ports on the Thugger, Purrdator and Snitch to give them awesome arsenals. You can also assemble the components into complete Slammer/Driller accessories for a rad, ground pounding time! The Slammer set comes with 2 pistons and 4 Slammer bits, while the Driller set comes with 2 pistons and 2 Driller bits. Collect them all! You can order the Slammers at Slammers for Thugger 4.0 on Shapeways. You can order the Drillers at Drillers for Thugger 4.0 on Shapeways. Flickr is here. Fakebusker's Shapeways Store
first off, love your work. especially purrdator. second, will you be designing a laserbeak to fit wfc soundwave? i suggest calling it 'laserduck' if u do
This is a Shapeways noob question, but here it is... Since Shapeways works from CAD files, how hard would it be to upscale designs? Obviously the materials costs means it would also inflate prices, but how much effect would it have on the designs themselves? I LOVE these guys, and I admire the way you've engineered them to fit in Soundwave, but they're so damn tiny! zmog
You are right about the increase in prices. Also there are many hidden factors when you scale the models up straight, among them the dynamics of the joints. Ball joints behave very differently at different scales so I rather engineer everything from scratch so that I can make sure they work. Additionally I mentioned before I'd like to have a purpose for their alt mode to exist. If there's a oversized KO Soundwave they can fit in, I don't mind scaling them up. Thanks for your comments!
Good point about the alt-mode... I understand working to that principal, even if it wouldn't bother me if they just became... uh... non-ejecting cartridges? I was just thinking of all the chinese KO toys I've seen that are upscaled versions of official figures, often with minimal apparent alterations to the original design. I've certainly experienced firsthand some of the problems with downsized designs (hello iGear Faith Leader), but I find the upsized figures usually make the transition pretty well. Of course, I can understand how there could still be a million little variables, including how the materials themselves behave at different thicknesses. zmog
Lol...What if in my next cycle I'll make like a chinese KO manufacturer and just print a straight enlarged version? I'll let you know how that goes!
Hey FB how about a pcc sized Brawn, Gears. also would you be able to come up with some better arms for animated arcee?
Right now a Thugger costs <$10 (WSF). With the slammers and triggers, the total goes up to <$30. I'm sure folks here would buy an upscaled version if the total is less than $60. That is if you decide to do an upscaled version.
I want to address specifically the TFA Arcee subject in this reply, since I've received many comments about it. What exactly is bad about the current TFA Arcee that warrants a replacement? I mean, besides toon-accuracy. (If toon accuracy is an issue, there are many other figures I'd like to tackle before Arcee)
I think the issue is that people would like more classicy style arms so they can use Animated Arcee as Classics Arcee. The head and arms are what really make the difference from the Animated from a classics aesthetic for a lot of people.
