Hot damn these look good. And at about $7.00 a pop, they are even more incredible. I'll definitely be in for a set of these.
now the only thing we need is a movie frenzy that fits deluxe barricade chest(¬¬ but no the original one who came with the 2007 mold) XP nicely done anyway, but how about some color?
I haven't tried White Detail yet (though I have a couple of Black Detail models on order, which is the same stuff, only dyed), but it's basically the same acrylic material as the transparent, so I assume it is. I don't suppose it's something you can easily avoid; the reason you don't get it with WSF is because it's powder-based. You do still get some residue left in sockets and such, but it's pretty easily brushed out. I think the only advice I can offer, like I said, is to give it a wash with warm soapy water (I'm lazy, so I've been using waterless hand cleaner on mine, but soapy water should do a more thorough job) and a good scrub.
Fakebusker's Shapeways Store Thugger is officially released! You can purchase him here at Thugger by fakebusker83 on Shapeways. Prices are as listed: White Strong Flexible: $6.51 Black Strong Flexible: $9.17 White Detail: $7.76 Black Detail: $7.79 Prices of the other materials can be found on the Shapeways link. I'll recommend printing this figure in Detail materials to fully appreciate the details on the tiny sculpt, but printing in Strong Flexible material is still feasible. This is revision 2.0, and there could still be possibility of problems in the sculpt. I myself will be printing a few more samples for quality control but I'm releasing Thugger now for those who want him. Comments, critiques and feedback on problems faced in the figure will be very much appreciated! Sincerely, fb Fakebusker's Shapeways Store
Hi fakebusker, which material do you recommend for the thuggers? I heard that the detail materials are fragile and that they can break if you try to assemble a ball joint..
Most of the kinks *should* be ironed out. Hopefully... The only partsforming will be the weapons themselves. Learn to wait, grasshopper! The wait is over! Haha...I'm pretty happy with my HA Frenzy. I'll probably paint those samples when they arrive. Stay tuned for more pictures! Yep I just received the White Detail in the mail today it is as you described it. Sucks about having to clean it before painting. I took care to design the ball joints sturdy enough to withstand light posing and play. Of course the material is not as hardy as Hasbro's plastics so do take care! Even Strong Flexible materials can't beat traditional ABS. As long as you don't force anything the figure should be up to par.
Thanks Cheet! You've ordered a set? Thanks for your support! Now guys, it has only been 2 days and the support for the twins is overwhelming! I feel so flattered that my design struck a chord with you guys Now I just have a favour to ask. Those who will receive your Thuggers in the mail, can you take a couple of pictures of them preferably assembled and in action (or even painted)? Or at least leave a few words of feedback on this thread. It would greatly help the rest see how various materials affect the clarity of detail and the feedback allows me to further refine the design if needed. Much appreciated guys.
WOO! I should have some in about 10 days So, this is actually the first day I've seen the full photo spread (Been stuck behind work firewalls previously) and I had no idea they fit into WFC Soundwave!!! I figured we were talking G1. You are a mad genius! Though, now I kind of hope you do a larger scale version that might play nice with the mini-cassette format D/L
So...my laptop just went bonkers on me and I have to send it for repair. This means no Shapeways stuff from me for the next few days Update: Shapeways has just started production on mine today. Given the number of orders for Thuggers I'm not surprised. For those who bought from me, I would like to express my deepest gratitude, and I ask for patience on your part on behalf of Shapeways. They should arrive by end of next week hopefully! Yeah I ordered 4x Black Detail. Pretty excited to see how they turn out. After I receive them I should be painting them up, so for those asking painted pictures of them do be patient. As compared to White Strong Flexible? I have the sample White Detail with me and it looks pretty good as well. Doing the toothbrush+soap clean up works really well in bringing out the details. Let me brainstorm on the cat and bird a bit...they should be fun to do. Do take some pictures and show us! I'm curious how would the red and blue guys turn out. I was planning on larger versions, but what would you like them to transform into? There's no point in them being cassettes if they don't fit into Soundwave. My current idea was to have them change into a cybertronian mini-tank, the obvious solution, but I'd like other ideas as well.
Is there any way you can ask shapeways if you can make them more than a solid collor??? I would purchase if you could make a frenzy and rumble
Well I was originally thinking mini-cassette alt-modes, or else "cybertronian-storage drives" like these versions, but sized to snuggle into Soundwave's chest. BUT now that you've got me thinking outside of the box.... What I'd LOVE to see (and I bet many other fans would agree) is some kind of alt-mode that would compliment Device Label Soundwave. Officially the twins got made into Headphones...but they were on "leashes"....and generally kind of comical looking. I'm sure you could come up with a cooler design. For the brothers, maybe 2-halves of a "Docking Station" or something like that? Or...Mini-Hard-Drive-Storage Modules...or anything hi-tech vaguely i-pod-accessory-cool. Just typing off the top of my head here. Obviously nothing would have to be a WORKING device, but if they displayed in a way that was thematically cool with Music Label Soundwave, that would be VERY cool...might give you some flexibility in your design options too... And the mind boggles at the fun concepts that could be done for the other tape-characters...let alone accessories for Device label Blaster (Mini-laptop that he is)... You render it, and I'll buy and build it
Guys, Shapeways only releases products in one colour, and no, they won't be painted. You have to paint them yourselves...You can have them dyed in different colours though. I was thinking of offering painted versions, meaning I would order them first, paint them, then mail them out to customers. But this would mean higher prices and longer waiting times and I don't want to do that. Great ideas! Yeah I didn't really like how the Frenzy Rumble headphones turn out, but they do work as functional devices though. I especially like your idea on a 'docking station' for Soundwave. Nice role-reversal sir. I like your thinking, but I'm hesitant to do minions specifically for ML Soundwave as it is quite an old, outdated design (specifically because it uses mini SD cards) and not many fans own one. He sure looks awesome though. Well, let me see the feasibility of a WFC cat and bird design first before I work on anything else... Has anyone received their Thuggers yet?
