straight to it, excuse this it will be crappy crude but bare with me and you'll have an awesome little bad ass. Now what you'll need Hailstorm Screwdriver Something sharp (in my case a box cutter) Now remove his arms completely from his torso, in order to do that you need to remove Only that screw on both arms Then we open the shoulder wich are these And with that picture you see what were going to do Pop off the brown treads and cut out the sunken part following the hole you see in the previous picture.( maybe someone can take a pic of the arm without the cut so I can post it for future reference?) Make sure you level the area around the screw hole where the shoulder joint will pass. here's what I mean Now were almost done we simply need to make alittle room for the shoulder piece to slide smoothly now forgive me for this picture because its butt ugly but at this point you need to slice that small block between the two wheels and the corner under it next to the point where the shoulders fold. And that's it! Piece him back together we went from this To this And yes he still transforms!
This actually makes me like this mold MUCH more! I may need to pick one up and give it a try sometime. Thanks for sharing this mod with us, man.
how about when you try and pose his arms out at his sides? does this allow for more, less or the same amount of clearance?
Dude, excellent timing! I just bought Mindset a few hours ago and was regretting it. I hadn't noticed how monkey-like the mold was until I had him in hand. (Though to be fair Mindset has a more gorilla face than Hailstorm.) This mod, which I just performed, made a figure I regretted into a figure I am now indifferent to. So thanks for saving me from buyers remorse! Now he looks more Dwarfish than gorilla-ish. I wish I had an axe for him.
Woah! I'm totally doing a custom out of this toy, and I suddenly really need to do this arm mod! Thanks for sharing. He looks great!
Some warning from my amateur efforts. First be careful with how much you cut away. My right arm is now in danger of falling out when I shift it because I cut too much at one point. Second warning, you can't really have the missile pods on his shoulders because there isn't enough clearance with the new shoulders. Or at least I can't find a way to make it work well.
I've held off on picking this mold up for those "monkey arms" because I tend to like bots that are better proportioned. He just looked too short and squatty, with huge arms before. You should share yours also. If a few of you can chime in and help show what you've done and how you've done it, it will make a nice tutorial here for those interested in trying it out. (paging SQ7 - another tutorial in the works here!)
Co-Signed You nail it bro, That mod makes me NOW WANT to but the Figure. Thanks For Sharing this with us, and good job finding it
I've only got a camcorder with a crappy resolution for photos at the moment but if you want to see mine... I did what I was told to do. I cut away the plastic and tried to copy the look of the photos. Now if I could just get his head to stop falling off at the drop of a hat. The next shot is the arm that can fall off. Notice how big the hole is by the normal position. Don't do this.
