Very nice mod. I like the fact that it can still look original if you want it to. I'll be doing this later! I think I'll use a dremel though - I can't imagine cutting that by hand.
If you (and any of the rest of you) end up doing this, please shoot as many photos of the process as you can for a tutorial. I think what I've seen so far is pretty good, but I'd just like to see more! Also, I think this is really cool that a lot of people already seem to be jumping on with this - I really enjoy when things like this become communal Thanks for all you guys contribute!
really really cool, but beware: if you cut to much, the arms are getting loose and useless! so be careful whily cutting! Bleeding fingers will heal, hailstorm and mindset will never heal!
Just tried this out yesterday with one of the arms on my Hailstorm. It works pretty well, but it also made the shoulder joint rotate way too freely. Is there any way to fix this?
This is particularly good for anyone wanting to do the increasingly popular Hailstorm-to-Guzzle custom. Monkey arms are great for Hailstorm, but this mod makes my Guzzle look even stockier, and much more in proportion. Thanks! Wreck 'n' Rule! Great idea, mate. Possibly build the area back up with some plastic putty, or by melting some plastic into place with a soldering iron. After that.... the old superglue trick?
@IcedPhoenix: Thanks for the tutorial. I don't have Hailstorm now, but your tutorial makes me want to buy him. @ClutchKick: Your custom Guzzle is really nice! I like the custom head. Do you mind to share what did you use for the head?
The search function is your friend It's the head from ROTF bumblebee, as thought of by JAnGoThaKing. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/354495-lsotw-guzzle.html That's right, I steal everyone else's ideas and use them for my own dark purposes. Muahahahahahaaaa.... Unfortunately I made a mess of Guzzle's arms when I did this, so they aren't clean enough to help with any tutorials, sorry. Although I will add for anyone doing this, cutting the hole big enough to get the shoulder joint to move, but small enough so that it won't come off, requires serious skill and/or dark magic.
Or possibly angled cuts (as in bevelled so that they're wider on the side with the head than that with just the shaft). I've started to do one of Mindset's arms (using a good old-fashioned scalpel), and that's how I'm aiming to make it work. We'll see how successful it is...
Keep the feedback coming, gang! The more who contributes will be the merrier the tutorial Hopefully, these help: It sounds like it just takes a very skillful cut. Also, just remember it's easier to fix something when you take off too little than too much.
Oh, cool. I'm sorta new to customizing, so putty didn't even occur to me. Yeah, I probably should have used something more exact for the cutting than my set of tiny screw drivers.
You must be a mindreader, i've been thinking of doing the same thing since all those Guzzle customs started popping up from this mould. Glad to see that it works
Just posting a reminder: does anyone see anything in this thread that needs more attention? More photos of the process, etc.? If not, those of you who have done this, do you feel you have a sufficient amount of information to fully complete this?
Not sure; I'm still working on Mindset, on and off. I think the trickiest part I'm finding is clearing out the space around the grey joint piece so it can start sliding. It's very tricky to cut around the head of the pin, while also trying to figure out exactly what points are still stopping it from moving...
If that's the case, definitely document that with a photo or two if you can. Essentially, anything that can be added to this tutorial will be helpful Thanks for all that you guys do; it's very much appreciated!
